Basically I like the sound of some of these forum meets- however I have some reservations, (not the seat ones!)

I'm not really into photographing or taking numbers down- I just enjoy being on a train travelling :D I'm usually by myself so conversation would be a nice addition!

Are these meets solely train stuff or is there a good amount of socialising and talk of other topics?

I'm sure there's a lot of nice people on here who would be fantastic to meet- particularly those sharing the same interests as me...

I just don't want to put my name down and then to be sort of left to one side because I'm not a regular etc...

Also, what sort of age range turns up? Is it male/female dominated? Do most go to plan?

It would be great if some members who aren't so regular to the forum could post their accounts of how meets went etc!! :)#

Sorry if I've put this in the wrong thread- I think the Meets thread is just for planning them...

when I went cycling with the cycling group, we chatted about everything we could think of, like what not to cycle on, our local area, music tastes, and we even had some joke telling, its generally mixed age, everyone is included, as far as I know most do go to plan, thats all I know about the meets

Ah, this seems ideal for me! An 'all the things you ever wanted to know about forum meets but were too afraid to ask' thread.

I too am interested by various meets, but being a relative newcomer  am not sure about them - though I have added myself as 'tentatively interested' on the West Yorkshire Metro Challenge, as it sounds great...

I think I have only ever been on about 2 "official" forum meets. But I know a fair few members having just bumped into them around the country.

We all have a good time, have a good laugh, and hopefully all take something away from the day, whether that is a cracking photo, a required loco/unit or just a day to remember. You won't be left out, all the meet organisers are friendly; I don't think there are any bad people on the forum. Me and Yorkie fall out every now and again, but we love each other really ;)

Seriously, if you wanna come along, stick your name down and turn up, you're more than welome! :)

Ste i think you're my age and we might have even gone to the same secondary school?
You work in LVC right?

I've not been on one yet, but we both are the same age and gender with the same background. I'm willing to lose my meet virginity if you are?

And yeah, I'm not into the whole photo and number thing either, I just like travelling by train and find them interesting

Erm... I am currently based at Liverpool Central- yes. Hopefully not for much longer though :) KK Depot :D

As for knowing me, possibly. Although I dread to think who you are from my ex-secondary school. PM me some details about you....

I'm willing to lose my meet virginity if you are? Now that's concerning!! haha.

A good place to start would be on a day rover meet, if I arranged one around the North West would you be interested?

Depends on the meets.

The best ones used to be to far-flung places like Mallaig, using traction like 37s, but you can't get them any more.

A railtour is best for people who like to sit down most of the day chatting (and potentially drinking), but they can be expensive.

The cycle rides are perhaps the most fun now, and there are usually options for less fit people to miss part of the ride and still participate!

On average probably most of the people on meets are teens/20s, but you do get people of almost all ages. Perhaps surprisingly, on the cycle meets the fittest riders are often the older ones rather than the younger ones!

A day rover meet (e.g. West Yorks/GMPTE etc) is more of a social thing these days, as let's face it; the traction is crap.

The best way to get to know people would be to go on the Retro Railtour on 29 August. I think you could, if you wanted, get to meet about 20 people on this forum, assuming a similar turnout to last time.

If anybody would be interested doing some sort of 'charity fundraiser' event around the North West, no idea what, but I can probably phone a few contacts and get free travel, particularly if there were a lot of people.

It does depend on peoples availability, rest days, a/l, exams etc, but if anyone can develop this idea a bit :D

Yes, but a 'social thing' is often a good place to start! ;)

Charity event sounds interesting!

To be slightly outspoken I get this feeling of late that the whole meet section is shriveling up a little and may have a possible connection with the recent departures from the forum but I'll just assume you know what im talking about.........

Not necessarily, maybe a few less meets but generally there are less in the winter months!

It's not winter?

I do see what he means but choose the wrong example but as it isn't summer so people are busy working and what not.
Just I think there is a temporary loss of zest in the meets section that needs a few decent meets to draw a few newbies into the fold (that being me included).

We haven't had a large jolly outing for a while now. I for one, like many others, will be doing the Newquay jolly so hopefully can see alot of the new people then. :)
