If you’re coming from a TOC to a FOC, not as many as you’re used to is the simple answer as with all FOCs. ;)

Having said that, maybe I’m being overly mean? The single most useful and valuable benefit working for a TOC is the travel.

Sorry, didn’t mean it to sound off or anything, was just saying that if you worked for a TOC beforehand, the perks won’t be on a par.

Although they don’t offer the free travel perks etc that a TOC may offer. They do have an employee perks site, in which you can purchase various perks through salary sacrifice. Such as a brand new lease car, technology ie TVs,phones computers etc. Or health insurance and a few other things. You can also make a saving on a few things like half price cinema tickets. If you’re a new starter, you will be informed of this at some stage.

So FOC employees don't get PRIV ?

Not sure how useful it might be, but can a FL driver ride in the cab for leisure purposes to get from one point to another in the country ?

How far could one get doing this ?

Unless you can live off the perk of driving trains FOCs don’t really have much unfortunately in the way of perks
As someone els said they do have salary sacrifice schemes on various things but nothing really to shout about

Absolutely not. The driving cab is not open for leisure travel to anyone.

The only freight employees with staff travel facilities are those employed before 1 April 1996 ie "safeguarded" staff. Or of course those with a partner working for a passenger TOC.....

is it common then for FOC staff to have to drop of a train at the other wide of the country and have to travel back for another train or are they restored to return to same train back to the starting depot again? in this case it would suck to not get free travel.

Could you elaborate on pension troubles please? And maybe the first bit too?
As you know Freightliner has put forward proposals to your union that could threaten your pension.

This is a profitable company which is growing, for example they have just won a multi-million deal with Mendip Rail. And even though Freightliner have a well-funded pension scheme they now want to force members for the first 5 years of their company service away from a Final Salary Pension scheme into an inferior Defined Contribution (Money Purchase) pension scheme. This will significantly reduce their retirement aspirations

If no return train, then taxi. You can still use other trains for work, but not for pleasure. And it's all covered by the job. But no personal travel.

Just started training a fortnight since, and all of us signed up for the final salary pension scheme. Best of luck in your new venture.

You certainly need to prepare to provide your own transport, but occasionally you might get lucky and get a lift home.

In terms of travel you do get some concession in the form of a duty travel card, but as titled this is for duty travel only as appears on your diagram and doesn’t include to/from your depot before and after work

It’s the same with Network Rail, new entrants have to join the poor value defined benefit scheme for five years. After which you can then move to the much better final salary rail pension scheme.

All the way to the job centre.

The NR final salary pension scheme closed to new entrants a few years ago (2012 I think).
