Hello all,

I'm contemplating applying for GBRf (looking at Liverpool depot). Was wondering if anyone had any information on the routes they work out of Liverpool and also the shift pattern (or lack thereof). I'm guessing mainly workings to Drax power station around the houses and then back via Man Vic? Moreover, if you work for GBRf do you enjoy it? I would be coming from a TOC so anyone who has made the swap if would love to hear your thoughts as well. Many thanks in advance for your time.

I’ve applied. I know a bloke at Liverpool and he really enjoys it. I used to work with him when he was at Man Vic.

Best of luck everyone.

The routes trains out of Liverpool (Tuebrook Sidings being GBRf's base) currently include Liverpool Biomass Terminal to Drax via Stockport, and generally return via Manchester Victoria with on occasions variation on that too. Seaforth CT to East Midlands Gaterway 'Intermodal' via WCML / Litchfield / Burton on Trent and return. Tuebrook Sidings to Shap Quarry and return 'stone / sand', then onto Ashton in Makerfield and return (x2). Also now Tuebrook Sidings to Penmaenmawr and return 'stone'. There are also occasional light engine moves to / from Tuebrook Sidings to Clitheroe, Penyfford and Trafford Park but not sure which drivers do that though. Hope that helps.

Is that all booked work?
What about ballast jobs?

The trains in my list are booked trains in and out of Liverpool. As for ballast jobs which originate as far as I am aware from / to Crewe BH for weekend work, some of the loco's involved come from Tuebrook and Bescot. Which drivers are booked for them, I assume based on the required route knowledge amongst other things.

Ahhh..the qualified role I presume? Crewe trainee was up a little while back, don’t think trainee one has gone back up.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Crewe are responsible for a lot of the sleeper work, fwiw.
Crewe work Euston to Crewe or Preston. However this is top link work. As a trainee you'll almost certainly be on Small Heath to Hindlow work.

What do they do when they get to Preston, Driver changeover? Afaik they don’t have any depot or siding they use at Preston.

I can't remember if it's a Scottish driver or a Carlisle driver that takes the train north of Preston. The Crewe driver will normally work the southbound service back to Crewe or they'll pass back. Everyone has a slightly different route card at GB so if there's a Crewe driver that signs north of Preston then they may take it north. But they typically dont go north of Preston.

Anyone got any info about booked work/rosta etc for Crewe depot?
Crewe is a good depot that's grown a lot and shows no signs of slowing down. As a new starter you'll definitely sign Crewe to Hindlow and Crewe to Small Heath. You'll also get Northampton via the Trent Valley. Over time you'll get more added such as Trafford Park, Wembley and East Midlands Gateway.

Scotland driver takes north , Carlisle drivers don’t do sleeper work. Well maybe 1 does. The odd Scotland driver signs all the way from glasgow to london as well . Only odd 1 will do the full route very rarely. Crewe have a job they go to Wembley for the set , take it in to Euston , then to Preston then take the one of the south bound sleepers to crewe and finish.

Does anyone know what work doncaster drivers do?
Bulk of the work is joint line to Peterborough. Few driver's sign down to Felixstowe. Used to have booked work to Felixstowe but I think that's stopped now.

Plenty of work to both Iport and Masborough. Goole and Barnby Dun. Toton via Chesterfield with some signing via Sheffield. With some going to Landor Street via Toton. They used to have work to Peak Forest but I'm sure this has now stopped

Guessed as much
Think they have the odd job to Acton. Every driver has a different route card throughout the company. So it's a little tricky to say a depot does this and this because it changes weekly. But Westbury normally go to Eastleigh. I know they get the work to Devon and Cornwall when it comes around.
