Okay, if we're ditching thermodynamics and going for riddles, how about:

Everywhere (i.e. move about to keep warm)?

Although "Everywhere" certainly includes the place(s) in question I really want something more specific and movement isn't necessary unless it gets too hot for comfort.

It's vertical shrinking problems that involve dwarves.

Desperate but shows imagination which is good...but wrong.
If you had a speech impediment you’d be in a womb. And they’re quite warm?

You are right to point out that the question should have been "For persons without a speech impediment where in a room is it best to stand if you're cold and why?"
Glad we cleared that up.
My other half thinks she knows the answer but she won’t tell me until the morning.
What time do you get up?

Is it: In the corner, where it’s always 90 degrees?

Your other half (is that top half or bottom half?) is correct. Now you just have to decide which half sets the next question.
I’m going to have to say open floor because I can’t think of any decent questions.

For those who are not @DerekC or @Cowley -- a hint without totally giving it away, maybe; there are four of the Islands. Names-wise, two are ingredients; one is the mixing vessel; and the last is an unfavourable judgement on the result, after sampling.

I presume from the clues they must be north of me, on the west coast of Scotland, or near Ireland. The only islands near me that I could half-shoehorn into the clues would be the Skerries/Sherries... :p

What do the following European countries currently all have in common (and no other European countries)

Andorra
Estonia
Faroe Islands
Gibraltar
Latvia
San Marino
Are they all countries which contain no cities?

Edit - Of course it isn’t.

I'm guessing that it's something in the administrative / legal sphere -- but I've no idea what !

Two are not actually countries.

Gibraltar is a British overseas territory.
Faroe is part of Denmark in one form or another.

Hmmm...

San Marino is a self governing area in Italy isn't it?

Gibraltar is self governing as well.

Is it the self governing territory bit that you are looking for?
