Is it something to do with the letters in the numbers if they are written as words?

I'm drawing a blank on answers in a different number base, bitwise OR operations, or anything clockface related.

I did, however, note that the first answer is 1/2 the actual arithmetic sum, the second is 1/3, and the third is 1/2, though that's probably happenstance.

If 6 + 7 +7 + 8 =12
and 4 + 5 + 6 =5
but 1+ 2+ 3 only equals 3

what am I doing?

Regards and thank for the chance to set a question.

Ian

Is the spacing and the lack of "=" in the third equation significant?

No significance at all in the lack of an =

Nothing to do with prime numbers either.

So far everyone is thinking far too mathematically.

Arithmetic is useful in this, but it doesn't help you solve the question.

Regards

Long shot. Is it the number of roman numeral characters in each number. It works for the first two, and Fifteen = 2, but not the others.

Cribbage is the answer.

The scoring (for those who don't know)

19 =0 is because it is the only number that cannot be scored in the system

Every combination of 15 is equal to 2 points.

6+7+7+8=12, is because there are two 15s (7+8, 7+8, and also a pair, 2X 7 and two runs of three 6,7,8 giving a total score of 12.

Would Nerys Hughes be Sandra in the Liver Birds
Being filled up with paraffin be from Rentadick, where the security driver locks himself inside the van and is literally flushed out with paraffin
