McGill's also have their own Smartcard for McGill's only tickets as do Stagecoach, so this makes 5 Smartcards in Glasgow. The whole point of issuing smartcards is to save on paper waste from god knows how many thousands of paper tickets issued every day...
My main concern is that this is now the 3rd different transport smartcard to be launched in Glasgow... At least the other 2 (Scotrail and Glasgow Subway) actually work with each other's tickets, unlike this. Methinks McGills really just want to keep on their petty dispute with SPT to the detriment of customers.
There are quite a few anomalies with the Tripper Smartcard. I have had the card declined on McGill's service 21 between Govan and Paisley and service 310 between The Fort and Shettleston. Today I had it declined on a Stagecoach service 4 between Shawlands and Buchanan Bus Station, and yes First Scotland East routes B10 from BBS to Maryhill and X37, X39 to Mollinsburn, because First Scotland East ticket machines don't recognise the card. The driver has to take your word for it that you have a valid ticket on the card. By the way the drivers all knew about the ticket and some of them knew about the problems. Apart from the above the ticket is great value for money and most journeys had no problems whatsoever.
