Wonder what future awaits the first G2?G2 101 is currently being loaded onto a low loader at Edmiston Drive.
It is interesting that this report refers to 1 of them potentially becoming a sauna.Sky News report on the old cars being up for sale:
Is there any news as to what happened with 101 yet?G2 101 is currently being loaded onto a low loader at Edmiston Drive.
I believe dampers have been fitted. Is it my imagination or has there been an improvement in ride quality recently? Not been on them since they first entered service but this week I've noticed a big change and they don't bounce around as much. I take it the talked about improvements have been done?
They only need to make the doors open quicker now
Found myself taking the subway for the times time in a few weeks yesterday. Noticed a big reduction in the shoogle and the doors opened much quicker when I went in both directions.
Shoogle? First time I've needed a dictionary on this website! Very useful word which should be introduced onto the London Underground.
very glad to see, those trains represent so much history of the city, will be exciting to see where they end up.Some good news regarding some of the old stock!
From Paul Sweeney on X:
“After much persistence, a team of us have managed to save around half of the 1980 Metro-Cammell Glasgow Subway cars from the scrap yard.
A huge thanks to @BenDC_ for his relentless work to secure deals for these much loved little trains for and project managing their re-homing.”

Assume it was the S. Norton yard in Govan? My brother saw these being cut up in a scrapyard and it did seem a shame to see them cut up with no plan for preservation at the time.
Good to some being preserved, that's the easy part you now need to get a 4ft gauge track to run it on or regauge it to standard.
Yes he was a contractor there.Assume it was the S. Norton yard in Govan?
Half of them. That seems like quite a lot. Where are they all heading to?Some good news regarding some of the old stock!

Perhaps they're hoping to sell them as garden sheds, summer houses, etc.I was thinking the same, half the fleet seems a lot, one full trainset would be enough.

That's my reading. I don't think this is "preservation" as such, more likely upcycling/repurposing.Perhaps they're hoping to sell them as garden sheds, summer houses, etc.
