Apparently, it's a "Virtual Airline", and there's even an article in Wiki …
Currently, Global is less than that even. Manx2 was a classic but it was licenced to sell tickets.

At present Global must not claim to be an airline to passengers nor can it be involved in selling tickets from what I understand of our law.

Travelopedia is licensed to sell tickets on flights it has chartered from HiFly who happen to use an aircraft from Global.

Edit: Foreign Carrier Permits now issued, see next post.

CAA has issued Foreign Carrier permits for Hi Fly to operate 9H-GLOBL on the maiden Berlin-Gatwick on 03/05, a Lisbon to Birmingham on 09/05 returning on 11/05 and the discussed Travelopedia charters between Glasgow/Manchester and JFK.

Footage including and a walkthrough of the plane, looks like they did a nice job anyway.
Looks a basic re-cover of the existing Chinese hard product, if I’m honest. The “Skypub”, which looks like a couple of catering carts lashed together, is cringeworthy.

Best of luck to them though!

It’s certainly better than the drab grey that China Southern had! I’m not quite so sure about the gushing praise though. But new seat covers and new carpet always looks nice.

(Thank you for the link btw, didn’t mean to sound snippy about the link or your comment!)

Don't worry didn't take it that way!

Considering the speculation earlier in this thread about what exactly this airline is or isn't, seeing what they have done is a bit of a surprise.

Well against all the odds and financial common sense the first commercial flight between GLA and JFK has taken off. Good luck to them. would love to know how many passengers actually paid for their tickets…

Looks like it's parked up on a remote stand at JFK, offering customers that true budget airline experience.

Apparently none of the onboard entertainment worked either, including in business class..

Quite a few online flight reviewers were on the first flight. All of the reviews are poor and range from pretty bad to dire.

They were promised two meal services (no other airline does on flights to NYC), but it took over three hours for the starter from meal one to come out and the second meal service was scrapped.

The CEO also had multiple digs at Simon Calder who'd previously said it was unlikely to happen. Not the best idea to attack the UK's most prolific travel journalist IMO.

The airline needs all the goodwill it can get, and I don't think this intro flight has done that.

By design actually. The CEO reckons passengers today don't want screens and prefer to stream content to their own devices.
They do offer wifi streaming from servers on the plane (not internet wifi). Though on that first flight content was very limited.

I can't say I agree with him. No way to I want to hold my phone for hours on a plane/ strain my neck watching it on the tray table.

Sounds very Muskish, never a good sign.

Same, and even aside from the problem of holding it vs propping it up on the table (which I personally prefer to fold away when I'm not actually using it), there's the somewhat different viewing experience of watching a film on a 6 inch screen vs a 12 inch screen.

I’ve seen on LinkedIn a post by the CEO James Askwith basically using the classic social media click bait cliche of ‘proving the doubters wrong’ in that kind of toxic positivity traits that’s unfortunately weekly common place in that sphere.

Problem is he has somehow managed to convince investors to part with lots of cash, but that cash will only go so far. Some predict on another forum that he’ll be out of cash within a couple of weeks. Either way I can’t imagine the CAA will take such a positive view given they have to protect the fare paying public.

Commercial aviation is a battle of the egos, but you REALLY have to have lots of money behind you from the outset and it tends to help if you’ve got some of your own aircraft first. I can’t think of many lasting startups which started from scratch in the U.K. in the last 30 years. Easyjet?

Yes, EasyJet started in 1995 with 3 flights a day each from Luton to Edinburgh and Glasgow, planes being wet leased. A sensible first step that had enough of a service to be a viable competitor to rail and other airlines. I used it a couple of weeks after launch, so remember it well.

No need. Use the 'sick bag' hack to hang it from the chair in front.

I actually prefer podcasts on flights, amazing how quick time goes.

When I pay a €5 - €10 extra for a premium coach service with https://luxexpress.eu/en/ rather than travel with EcoLines or Flix I get seat back entertainment. For 4h+ it really helps.

I absolutely can't imagine paying for a redefined luxurious golden age of flying experience and there not being a seat back screen.

I’d love to know the cost of having a A380 parked at JFK for 4 days, this whole service makes no financial sense for minus the aviation media the same number of people who could fit on a A318

This does seem strange.

Many years ago when I was involved with British Airways (and Pontious was up the pointy end) I seem to recall that the breakeven point for a 747 was 17 hours in the air for every 24.

Parking costs were considerable then and I can't believe it's got any cheaper.

Expect it’s nigh on impossible that it’s got any cheaper. The only thing I can think of is I’ve heard of other operators getting very favourable lease agreements that sees them paying 0 when the aircraft is on the ground. However I can’t imagine the parking charges at JFK are exactly cheap, plus the crew will need to be paid.

This will be over soon short of some miracle cash injection.

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.
Having watched the gamut of travel review vids (ok fine, Noel Philips, Josh Cahill, Swiss001 and Simon Calder) I'm now almost sad that I didn't try it, though I was already on a completely different A380 at the time. Had I flown with Global it's evident I'd have been able to find an entire row...or rows to myself. And I'd have been guaranteed peace and quiet (roaming YT-ers aside) simply because I wouldn't have felt compelled to look for something akin to in-flight wifi.

Based on what I've seen so far it's hard to see Global expanding to anything substantial.
