To help us a little can you confirm the following..?
We can rule out Wales otherwise the sign will also be in Welsh.
It looks like limestone bricks which were used in the construction of stations in the west country stretching from anywhere south west of a line from a line vaguely Gloucester/Salisbury/Weymouth.

You can rule out anything Welsh. I'm not sure of my building materials but your thinking would not lead you to the right answer.

There are very few stations managed by Northern that are east of the pennines and not in Yorkshire. the Tyne valley and T&W had been ruled out, and it's fairly obvious it isn't a Barton line station, so it was either Durham Coast, Worksop or Shireoaks :p
