I think that's a wagon of some sort. I'm going to guess a tank wagon (I've got no idea what their official name is!)
It is indeed a wagon Dan. It’s a certain type of wagon though and bearing in mind the area that I live in and also bearing in mind the colour of the stains on it then it’s probably reasonably easy to find on google.

Having just done some research into what the various types of wagons are actually called (I'm completely clueless when it comes to freight!) I'm going to guess a PCA wagon?

No not a PCA. It’s bigger than that and has bogies...
