Is Guildford to North Camp via Ash Vale allowed (I.e. walking between Ash Vale and North Camp)

I suspect not as the fare is more for a Guildford to Ash Vale ticket.

Appears to be (based on a search keyed on the SWT website - you can even travel Guildford - Woking - Ash Vale before taking the walk to North Camp, according to the journey planner!

Guildford and North Camp share a common routeing point: Guildford.

This means only direct trains and those following the shortest route (and those no more than 3 miles longer) between Guildford and North Camp are following permitted routes.

[National Rail Timetable Table 148] Guildford - North Camp: 8.25 miles

[National Rail Timetable Table 149] Guildford - Aldershot - Ash Vale: 11.5 miles

[National Rail Timetable Table 155] Guildford - Woking: 6 miles
[National Rail Timetable Table 155] Woking - Brookwood: 3.5 miles
[National Rail Timetable Table 155] Brookwood - Ash Vale: 4.5 miles
Total: 14 miles

There is no applicable easement for this journey, therefore travelling via Ash Vale is officially not permitted, either via Aldershot or via Woking.

Even though SWTs own website allow the routes and will sell you tickets for them at the same price as the direct trains.
In fact the Guildford-Ash Vale-(walk) North Camp is actually cheaper for Anytime Day Single and First Anytime Day Single than the direct FGW service and the Guildford-Woking-Ash Vale-(walk) Noth Camp is also cheaper for a First Anytime Day single than the direct train!
All other fares are the same.

How is that not valid?

All I will say is that if a passenger purchases a ticket online and is given an itinerary for the ticket, then travels strictly according to that itinerary then I agree that the ticket should be honoured accordingly.

Online engines all have a margin of error built in and do not always interpret the Routeing Guide in the correct manner.

I cannot see anything in the Routeing Guide that allows this journey to be made.

Probably one of those funny ones that shouldnt exist but does although why anyone would want to turn a 13 minute direct journey into a 50 minute one with a walk involved is beyond me.

Maybe a cheaper way of getting a ticket valid for round-robin journeys between the following?

Guildford/Aldershot
Aldershot/Woking
Woking/Guildford
