I was waiting for a train and saw 2 GWR class 150 units coupled together, but one of which was in the older First Great Western livery. Firstly I was under the impression that 150's were used for branch lines only but this was on the mainline. GWR rebranded from FGW a few years back, so why was this unit still in the FGW livery? I have a picture. Does anyone know why they didn't change this unit?

They run between Exeter and Paignton on the main line everyday
That was my thought too, I've seen many pass on the Dawlish cameras.

Edit: Nevermind, the Cornish Mainline is only West of Plymouth, with anything West being South Devon Mainline or other bits.

Nothing showing for today I can find running in cornwall? can you advise the location and time of the photo. Not all the GW 150s have been repainted yet. 150238 and 150219 both in old FGW colours have been out coupled together as 4 cars running between Exeter and Paignton all day.

The repainting programme began in 2015 ahead of the launch of GWR and so the first two were painted in first great Western base blue having previously worn local lines vinyls. 150232 was the first to be painted green but due to the interior work not being signed off kept its blue interior.

Also 150207 is an ex Northern unit that's had very minor interior work
I much prefer the 150s with the full sized tables to the 165s. Not bad units and those on the St Ives branch looked well cared for

The 150s have to do some mainline work between Plymouth and Penzance because if they didn't it wouldn't be possible to get the units on the branches to and from Exeter for maintenance, although it is now the bare minimum, with an early morning working from Penzance to Truro, for the Falmouth line, and a Falmouth to Par train in the evening.

There is also a 4-150 working on a Sunday night from Penzance to Plymouth - https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:L50806/2023-09-24/detailed#allox_id=0 - and Exeter to Penzance - https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:L50384/2023-09-24/detailed

Was on the blue 150 today (150219) from Truro to Plymouth today (and I much preferred it to an IET!!) Is it the last train in FGW colours and interior?

Eight years after the much-vaunted re-branding, there are still units in the old livery! I believe at least one 166 is like this too, although I can't fully tell from the OP's shot if that is the earlier paler FGW blue or the later, darker blue. I would assume the latter, but it looks pale - weathered perhaps?

There is still a little bit of FGW blue visible in a corridor end floor of one of the sleeper buffets .... which still gets cleaned just for old times sake !
