Thanks Gareth. I'm due up for a tour of the depot on 7th July, precisely a month from now in fact, and I'm hoping a delivery may occur the day I'm there. Be good to see what's in the depot.

I heard these can only go 100 under diesel power - Won't that make the journey times in the non-electrified parts of the south west take longer than the predecessors?

Not significantly. Most of the network that is not being electrified is not high speed. I think someone had a go at working out the relative lengths a while ago.

Indeed, this is at least the third time the topic has been raised in this thread.

Check out delivery timetables again on page #4445. They are max 125mph as Diesel Multiple Units, but why are they still running under wires on diesel engines?

7.5 miles Northallerton-Thirsk in 3 minutes is faster than 100mph.

I saw 800011 pass through Hatfield last night. Extremely quiet and nearly didn't notice it (I wasn't looking out for it). Think it was 5X81 around 2155.

You can't say 'was it the green one' and then specifically reference to 800004 any longer! Not now 800003 seems to have been vinyled, in stages, I think it's somewhere near complete now. Last time I saw a photo of it, it still had some white on the cab but the rest was green.

Was this running under diesel power?

800 101 leaving Didcot Parkway for Swindon yesterday

https://youtu.be/1vnbJH57MQo

It had run into platform 9 at Reading yesterday lunchtime as 5X33 from Swindon, then reversed and followed my train to Didcot as 5X34. I was expecting it to run straight through the station but it came in on AC, stopped halfway down platform 1, lowered the pantograph and then pulled out westwards on diesel power as per the video.

I don't know if the loss of a pantograph at Tilehurst East Junction a few weeks ago is anything to do with it but they didn't appear to be doing the AC/diesel changeover on the move yesterday. I don't know if it had stopped at Tilehurst as well for the changeover from Diesel to AC on yesterday's run.

Noticed something different on RTT today.

5X73 1001 North Pole to Paddington

5X74 1033 Paddington to Reading

5X75 1117 Reading to Slough

1X75 1205 Slough to Paddington

5X76 1312 Paddington to North Pole

The difference being that they are shown with a TOC code of GW rather than ZZ. Is this an indication that the first set has actually been delivered to the TOC, or am I reading too much into it?

1X75 being the Queen's visit for a recreation of Victoria's trip 175 years ago. Neat reporting number...

Unsure but I was at North Pole the other day for a meeting and watched as one rolled past the level crossing and was mightily impressed by it
