Definitely are becoming fewer and in-between at Cardiff Central and Newport. Far more likely to have an IET turn up on the top of the hour to Taunton and beyond these days.

I haven't worked one in months, any Bristol - Plymouth work for me now is a unit and if I pick any off spare it's generally an IET....

Slightly off topic, but why are some of the small toilets in the middle of the Castles labelled as "Staff Only" but one at the end near the power car is open as usual (along with the accessible one)

Perhaps they've been reused or are only maintaining a lesser amount of loos.

Because they no longer have toilets. Your picture looks like coach A which was latterly the standard trolley store. C has a console for the information screens.

In addition it should be noted that the CET conversion design used by most Mark 3 operators can only be fitted at one end as that is where there is space on the underframe. At the other end the brake frame is in the way.

For anyone who wants to know the 4 remaining GWR sets in mainline action as of now are:
43027 & 43097
43004 & 43098
43188 & 43092
43155 & 43029

I’m not sure whether GWR are taking the 2 diagrams at the WSR back soon now that the XC HSTS are gone and they have space at laira if so then can someone please tell me which power cars these are i know one is 43042 but I’m not sure on the others

There are two sets (not sure what the "2 diagrams" are that you refer to?) at the West Somerset. There are paths in for Monday and Tuesday to bring those two sets back to Laira.

Monday is 5Z12 1315 Bishops Lydeard to LA (presumably 43094+GW02+43122)
Tuesday is 5Z25 1145 Minehead to LA (presumably 43042+GW03+43162)

Cool

I saw the mk3 ex-cross country stock today going through Yatton with the railadventure power cars

43480 with the first lot of mk3s

Ok thank you - the diagram includes the coaches as well - for instance I could say that GWR has 8 different class 43 castle class diagrams - just to put it into context for you

Are these 2 sets in perfect running order and will they return to mainline service?

Also does anyone know if 43093 Berkeley castle Old Oak Common last HST off the depot has been scrapped/stored?

I think you are using confusing terminology, unfortunately - they are normally referred to as "sets" and have been since new. Diagram would typically refer to the planned workings for a set (or indeed for traincrew) - so one set will have a diagram that it works (i.e. the individual services it works). Currently GWR has three planned daily diagrams for its HST sets.

They are planned to return under their own power, so presumably are operational. Nothing definite on if/when they return to service.

It is currently out of service at Laira.

I dont know why I put basically the same thing but basically what I meant was will the 2 sets in the Wsr be returned to service or scrapped?

Will 43093 ever be returned to service?

There have been rumours that it will because of relatively low milage.

Also 43153, 43154, 43186, 43187, 43189 in the operational fleet

I believe they are. They may come back out if we are lucky. I was told by someone who works for GWR that 43094 and 43122 are in better condition than the other two

Ok thanks

Are 153,154,186,187 and 189 in storage in laira or elsewhere?

And why don’t Gwr use these locos as well especially as the 800/802’s seem to be unreliable

They are at Laira I believe. They aren't diagrammed to run
