If it's only booked to Runcorn. Then in theory, it could turn back and go back to Chester/Crewe from the new turnback signal on the down platform. You'd have to ask Northern if it's required to go to Allerton Depot or to LSP.

The first confirmation that W&B will run the service.
Looks like no stops between Lime St and South Parkway, which at least keeps journey times reasonable.
Oddly it's the first item of the new W&B franchise spec to break cover.
I guess it will be after the Lime St blockade when things start to happen on staff training.
Now we just need to know where the rolling stock is coming from...

A not clear or obvious answer on that is there?

A commuter service from North Wales, Chester, Helsby and Frodsham to Liverpool could be provided by:

adding two carriages to 1K05, the 06:46 Llandudno (LLD) to Crewe, splitting at Chester
and
joining two carriages to 1D31, the 16:50 Manchester Piccadilly to Llandudno at Chester at 18:00 arriving Llandudno an hour later.

Holidaymaker, daytripper, shopping, airport, business and sightseer services in both directions could be provided by similar processes throughout the day.

Does the EMT shont cross to the down slow?

EMT shunt is shown as going from South Parkway platform 2 to platform 1 via Edge Hill depot on the slows in both directions. However, the Northern ECS from Runcorn to Lime Street via South Parkway platform 2 has been deleted from the system.

The 1650 Manchester-Llandudno is one of the legs of the current Holyhead-Manchester LHCS (67+Mk3s+DVT) - not something you want to split.
Who knows what is intended for that operation in the new franchise.
I think we will be stuck with a Liverpool-Chester shuttle on the Halton Curve initially, while the longer term opportunities are thought through.
While splitting/joining 175s does happen, it's on nothing like the scale of 158s at Shrewsbury and elsewhere.

What’s the consensus of electrifying Chester to Halton?? Then maybe Frodsham to Acton? Is it possible? Doesn’t seem to have the issues the Crewe - Chester line has and I’m sure there’s a strong case for it. Sutton tunnel is rather long but there seems to be ample space in there for wires.

It still suffers from a number of low, round arch sandstone bridges, just like the Crewe line.

Not as bad as Crewe-Chester though. And have a look at the Chat Moss. It can be done without too much bridge destruction.

Can't see it myself. Electrification from Halton would have to pick up the cost of electrifying the complex layout at Chester for one train per hour. The major benefits of the route are only realised if a through service continues into Wales, requiring more electrification or a bi-mode - and if you need a bi-mode then why bother electrifying any of it?

In the unlikely event of Chester-Warrington being electrified, I imagine the Curve would be done too.

Here's a thing: a southbound train via the Halton Curve on Sunday June 10.

On RTT there is a West Coast Railways train from Liverpool South Parkway (LPY) to Cosford, running via the Halton Curve and Chester, Wrexham and Shrewsbury.
Would this be the inaugural southbound service?
It leaves LPY at 1018 (1Z78), and returns at 2256 (1Z80), but the return leg runs Shrewsbury-Chester-Crewe-LPY (ie not via Halton Curve).
Is this real?

Could it be for the Cosford Air Show? Looks like it would be the first passenger service in that direction for a long time.

good news
I suppose that this and the Todmorden Curve, which I watched being built, are relatively cheap, in railway terms, and can achieve quite a lot of extra connectivity. Now how about the Burscough Curves (or one of them)?

Now that the curve is and point work is complete is this being controlled from the ROC at Manchester now? Thanks in advance!

Yes, transferred to Manchester ROC at the end of May after the last Bank Holiday blockade work.
