If I buy a NR ticket from the north to Wembley Central (not via London) & have to change at Harrow & Wealdstone, can I use my ticket on either the Bakerloo line or Overground for the last RW-WMB leg or must I confine myself to the Overground?

There's interavailability over this section, so National Rail tickets are valid on both Overground and Underground services. The following excerpt from the list of interavailable routes refers:
National Rail tickets which include validityare also valid on LU / DLR services
......
Between Harrow & Wealdstone and Queens Parkbetween Harrow & Wealdstone and Queens Park and intermediately (Bakerloo Line)

I wish they would allow that with the All Line Rail Rover!
Don't see any reason that it would exclude the All Line Rover.

By default an ALR is valid on LU/DLR on all interavailable routes, except for those where the list specifically refers to holding a ticket to a named destination such as Underground Zone 1.

Thanks all. Another quick query. Will a CDR from Milton Keynes to Wembley Central work the ticket gates at North Wembley? If not, will there be staff to let me through? Just trying to avoid post match queues at Central.

It's unlikely to but the interavailability on that section is pretty well known in my experience; you shouldn't have any issues being let through. You won't be the only person walking up there to avoid the queues at Central so I'd be amazed if there wasn't at least one staff member at the barriers (you may well find them open) - but in any case there must be a staff member on the station if the barriers are closed.

Very likely to be exit-only post a big event, as the queue is at Wembley Central.

An Off Peak Day Return from Milton Keynes Central to/from North Wembley would likely be cheaper than to/from Wembley Central (very next stop) if you're o.k. with using North Wembley station both before and after the event (extra one mile walk required). Also, depending on actual date/time of travel, possible there might be travelcard options that could save some ££. An intermediate change of trains will almost certainly be needed, though, if using North Wembley.

I would purchase an Off Peak Day Return to Euston and start/finish short as appropriate.

Are you sure about this? I can't find anything on the TfL website to suggest N Wembley is exit only after matches.

Unless they’ve changed things it isn’t, as I’ve walked to North Wembley after a match and boarded there after a match (or a concert) on more than one occasion

Would the inter availability also mean they could use southern trains too (if they arrived from a midlands train) and vice versa?

Depends on the ticket held. Wouldn't work on a Milton Keynes Central to London ticket if "route Avanti" or "route LNR Only".

If the ticket is routed "Any Permitted" or equivalent, then yes.

No problems using North Wembley after the League One final yesterday using my MKC-WMB CDR, in fact the station was very quiet. The gentleman in the ticket office opened the ticket gate for me from his desk. Just a pity I couldn't 100% trust the railways to get me down from Cheshire to Wembley in time for a 1 pm k.o. on a Sunday.

£21.30 with senior railcard. From MKC to North Wembley would only have been £17.75. But it wasn't about fares - it was more about timing if the game had gone to extra time and penalties (and possibly staying for a celebration) - and having to get off at MKC on the way back to recover my luggage from the hotel. The WCML was seriously affected by engineering works so nothing was simple.
