Is it not the case that stations do not get official opening blessing until all works have been fully completed and approved?

Incidentally, can you name the last station that was officially opened for passenger travel before meeting the specification I mentioned above.
You've not been to Morley, have you?

The gates blocking access to the station site from Headbolt Lane have been removed...there are now just 2 ordinary traffic cones preventing vehicles driving up to the station building.

Buckingham Group are main contractor on this and have filed a notice to appoint administrators, not sure what that'll mean for completion. Site looks very quiet today.

Does the site look amenable for foot passengers at least? IE: Is there a safe walking route from the road through whatever has been made so far to both platforms?

Generally businesses do continue to trade in administration because the priority is to sell them whole. Only if that fails and they move onto liquidation do they tend to end up not being able to fulfil contracts.

That said, while in administration their suppliers may not accept payment on net terms, and require payment up front instead - which may or may not be an issue in this case.

I reckon it is. The only parts that look unfinished is the car park and a bit of landscaping around the brook. There was talk of a 2nd entrance on the Northwood side of the track to tie into the existing footpaths close to the new housing development...but this hasn't been started yet.

Although not train related, work on the Anfield Rd Stand (Liverpool FC) and Fulham FC ground also came to a stop today too although it will not affect the games being played. Buckingham has a lot of contracts around the country so may casuse a bit of bother.

The administrators sent everyone home but now a small number are back to finish off work at Anfield. Maybe the same will happen in Kirkby?

I am sure that there are a good number of followers to this thread who will remember what occurred when the news broke about Carillion.
Indeed. Delayed opening of new Liverpool hospital by about five years. And a lot of work was found to be shoddy. You do have to wonder about due diligence on these contractors?

Noticed a few trains running today on Platform 3, no sign of any construction works this week though.
As the work being carried out was by Buckingham (sub contractors included) then the present situation, is that no work will be being carried whether it is this site and / or other building works sites (eg Anfield) until at least the company has formally gone into Administration which I understand is the next thing too happen but no one is sure when that is at the moment. Only after that it may possible that the affected parties are able to discuss with Administrator alternative contractors to complete the work (or something like that) which could be in a short time but could be a lot longer. I am sure other members who may have better informed knowledge are able to clarify.

Just over a week before the suggested (Realtime Trains etc) opening on Monday 2 October. Has anyone local seen any news reports etc? I've done a search online but Mr Rotherham seems to have gone into hibernation!

Tickets seem to be purchasable online for it as well (although I can't seem to get railcard discounts to work)

It seems very strange that the two local mayors have name-place surnames quite a distance from their mayorship base.
Steve Rotherham (area of South Yorkshire)....looking after Merseyside
Andy Burnham (area of Somerset)...looking after the Bee Network (is that the new name for Greater Manchester)?

Nice to see Northern on top of their game:

Engineering and disruptions:
Wigan Wallgate to Kirkby (Headbolt Lane) - (April - July)

Saturday 6 May until July
Buses replace trains between Rainford and Kirkby

Summer 2023
When Headbolt Lane station opens in summer, it will be the new terminus of Northern services between Kirkby, Wigan, Manchester and Blackburn. Merseyrail services between Liverpool Central and Kirkby will extend to Headbolt Lane.

A quirk perhaps, but hardly strange given we've long since moved past an era of static populations. Nominative determinism thankfully isn't absolute.

Yes common mistake. It's Rotheram. Still most people seem to struggle with concept of Kirkby and West Kirby.

I was in the area a week ago, only a couple of guys appeared to be on site. Still lots of work required in the car park though the station looks ready to go. The pedestrian exit on the south side is still the road to nowhere. Quite embarrassing, and cannot understand why the authorities cannot give update.

May be it is tied in with Buckinghams (site contractors) who have gone into administration and the Authorities have yet to established which contractor is going to complete the remaining work. It can be complicated and could take time - hopefully it will completed as soon as possible. Fingers cross.
