The SCAAT I downloaded before my recent assessment consisted of 3 sections, each with 3 sheets. The first section had 1 constant symbol to identify, very easy. The second had 2 constant symbols to identify, a bit more difficult. The third had 1 CONSTANT and another at the start of EACH LINE until the END OF THAT LINE. The variable symbol will therefore change at the start of EVERY LINE in section 3.
I found the test quite simple, but make sure you memorise the shape given to you on the instruction page before the start of each section, a lot of them are very similar and it is possible to go through a whole section identifying the wrong symbol.

Should be like this

1st set of tests - Only one constant symbol
2nd set of tests - Two constant symbols
3rd set of tests - One constant, one changing on each line

Think you must be forgetting that on the 'third' set of tests, one symbol remains constant but the second symbol is the one at the beggining of 'EACH' line (Don't forget to mark this one). So one every line the second symbol changes.

I was getting similar to you, with no more than one or two missing, I very rarely marked anything wrong. As it is only 1 minute per page where GB is 2.

Are you sure you will have to do this test? from what I've read on these forums the only trainee train drivers that have had to do this one is for Virgin.

Most seem to only do the GB test.

I would echo the above - nearly all TOCs use GB instead of SCAAT. I didn't bother - only practising GB until I was happy I couldn't physically be quicker or more accurate.

There may be one or two basic circuitry questions in the mechnical comprehension papers - depending if your TOC uses Doncaster or Crewe like I did. It's very very basic and I would recommend something like this on BBC gcse bitesize:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebi...electric_circuits/parallelandseriesrev1.shtml

Just get a good grasp of how bulbs in series and parallel circuits behave when switches are thrown etc.

At home I was doing about 1100 cells with 1 or 2 missed and I passed, but no idea what the pass mark is.

A little better than I was able to achieve constantly....I got a good pass, so keep that up and I'm sure you'll be OK. just remember to stay relaxed and focussed on the day.

Easier said than done I know.

I was doing 1600-1700 cells with 2-8 left out. I very rarely marked one incorrectly. I have no idea if this is good or not though?:-?

1600 is very fast - same score as what I was getting but with 0-2 omissions and managed an A and an outstanding pass. So you can afford to go a lot slower and if you go slower you will find you will make less mistakes. Or you can keep practicing at 1600 until you only make 0-2 mistakes regularly, but that is well above the standard required to pass.
