Does anyone collect or run old Hornby Dublo trains ? There were the Rolls Royce of model railways in their heyday (1950s - 60s), made of heavy metal diecast that was virtually indestructible.

Through the charity of a couple of older family friends and relatives, I have a reasonable collection of Hornby Dublo track and rolling stock.

The diecast locos in particular have an impressive weight to them. They all still run perfectly, too, although I don't have the opportunity for a permanent layout - I've got the "modern" Hornby and Bachmann stuff to focus on.

There is a layout at the abbey pumping station set up in a wh smiths bookstall. They run the layout at various special events during the year.

I have quite a large Hornby Dublo collection, though unfortunately I rarely get the time to play with it. :(

Is it 2-rail or 3-rail ?

Mine is 3-rail. I have Duchess of Montrose, Duchess of Atholl and Sir Nigel Gresley locomotives. Still run like the clappers, even after all these years.

Mine are all 3 rail also, I have several Dutchesses and Castles. An A4, 8F, several 4MTs and N2s, a class 20 and a Deltic. Lost count on the rolling stock front it's all still going strong though!

Regretfully I no longer have my Hornby Dublo. I got one of the very first 2 rail train sets. I saved up for it out of my pocket money with a local model shop's Christmas club, and my Dad bought me the A3 controller to go with it.

The set was a Southern Region 0-6-0 tank, a circle of track, 2 wagons and a guard's van.

I expanded this to quite a large layout, adding "Barnstable", and a Co-Bo diesel electric. Loads more rolling stock, notably a red breakdown crane. I sold the lot when I went to University, something I still regret to this day now I'm about to draw my old age pension.

Hi Roger
All those items are still around - and if you look carefully you can still find them nearly new.
I started collecting seven years ago 35 years after putting my Dublo away in the loft. It's a great hobby.

I used to have loads, but lost interest 25 or so years ago after collecting it through my teebs. Still have a boxed Bristol Castle though, which is a beautiful thing.
