When ever I go on First Great Western's website or even Southwest Trains I get told to change at London Paddington for a tube service. I want to change at Exeter St Davids, to get on a swt service to London Waterloo. Leaving from Plymouth at about 6am on a Saturday or Sunday. Thanks In Advance

Unfortunately, as I am discovering, railway company websites are not designed for those with a mind of their own. I suggest you go to the SWT site, download the relevant SWT pocket timetable (no 20), and look up the times yourself, in the old-fashioned way!

Using Saturday 12th December as an example, because of engineering works this weekend, take the 06:55 Plymouth to Paddington, arriving at Exeter St Davids at 07:51, connecting to the 08:25 to Waterloo arriving at 11:49.

18:20 is the closest to 7pm without changing twice, take the 18:20 from Waterloo to St Davids, arriving at 21:53, connecting to the 22:13 CrossCountry service to Plymouth.

For future reference, go to www.nationalrail.co.uk, click "Advanced search options" and specify "via Salisbury".

If you just want to avoid a particular operator then you can use the advanced options on nationalrail.co.uk and select 'don't show me journeys from'...

Use NRE and specify 'via Honiton' (or any station between Honiton and Tisbury), this will give you what you want. Same applies for TOC sites which will all make the assumption you want the quickest journey, which frequently is the most expensive route.
