How many Class 08/09s are still in service?

Wikipedia puts it at 100 for 08 and 25 for 09. Given how little passenger services still use coaches and how freight shunting is mainly done by large locos because of rakes and maintenance costs it seems unlikely that there's still so many in service.

Around Merseyside we still have four -
Two at Alstom Traincare Centre at Ditton, one at Garston Car Terminal and one at Allerton Depot.

How many 08's are named? Tyseley has the LM liveries shunter named "Bam Bam" and did carry another additional name plate for a time too.

08s are still used to shunt EMU/DMUs that can't be driven on their own for whatever reason. I think there are still 3 in use at Neville Hill.

At least one of the GA ones was at Norwich last time I was there.

171 class 08s in National Rail or industrial service, which excludes those in preservation.

Ten class 09s in similar use.

Thirty six of those 171 class 08s carry names.

One in regular service (but somewhat sorry condition) at Temple Mills depot near Stratford.

I often see one at the Arriva traincare depot in Bristol, plus there was one at the sidings near Goonbarrow signal box on the Newquay line when I went through earlier this year.

Astonishing to think that many of these still operating on the network are older than some BR-built steam locomotives.

There are two or three that are kept very busy in Eastleigh yard, carrying “Rail Support Services” (RSS) dark grey. One is named “Spirit of the Oak”, I wonder if it’s a former Old Oak Common machine.

That's 08 460 but I don't have the full allocation history to hand; randomly dipping in my old Combined Volumes shows it as having a rather nomadic existence though...
