Railmiles Mileage Engine (RMME) is a good place to start - http://rmme.railmiles.me/
However, it doesn't allow waypoints and will just use the shortest route (including freight lines and reversals) so for long journeys like the above mentioned, you will need to do it in sections
You would get what you are after from a paid subscription to RailMiles, where you can enter the service and it will calculate the mileage (according to booked route, by default)
Railmiles gives 774m12c, which supports that! What route/service are you after?
Edit: just seen the hyperlink; it's 771.88 miles according to the data used for fares & ticketing purposes (which is not always the actual mileage!); I'd imagine the TRUST figure is more likely to be accurate.
In addition to methods others have given, if you have an interest in related bits-and-bobs you might want to browse http://www.railwaycodes.org.uk/elrs/elr0.shtm. Station ELRs etc. are available on http://www.railwaycodes.org.uk/stations/station0.shtm. Have fun!Hi there,
I was wondering if there is a way to find out the miles & chains done by a particular service, for example this one - I am aware RTT shows it on some services but not all so I was wondering if there's a way to find it out for any service.
Thanks,
Thomas

I did this one a few years ago and, using Railmiles, calculated 774 miles 16 chains.Hi there,

Also this website gives mileages http://www.bukitlawang.com/routes/routes.aspx and is very easy to use.
Weirdly hidden on a website advertising part of Indonesia!
