What's the walking connection between New Street and Curzen Street going to be like? Pretty integrated like Kings cross/St Pancras or convoluted like Euston / St Pancras?

It's pretty easy, follow the road to the left, turn left at Moor St station and it's a few hundred yards on the right. I'd say leave 8-10 minutes from station to station just to be on the cautious side

This video by Gareth Dennis measures it to be about a 5 minute walk

Still trying to get my head around exactly where Curzon Street will be located, but that video is timing the walk from Moor Street to Curzon Street..

Am I right in thinking the HS2 station will be located alongside Moor Street? Or further back towards Eastside near the original Curzon Street Station next to Millenium Point?

Looking at Google Maps satellite view, it looks by the ongoing works that there will be a Curzon St entrance just past Moor St station.

The whole area between Moor Street and Millennium Point has been flattened over the last few years, it's actually been quite interesting to watch, you get a decent view from the top deck of the bus as it skirts around Masshouse and onto Moor Street Queensway.

It's hard to visualise how it'll all come together though.

Immediately adjacent neighbours at pavement level, that’s been confirmed in a number of drawings over the years. I firmly believe the name Curzon St was a highly dubious decision leading to misleading views of the distance from New St.

The supports are being laid
The supports for the viaducts are, yes.

The station supports are not. The station will be built on the land north of the old Curzon St Station building (the cleared land that's green/brown at the moment).

Is that possibly a typo? The cleared land is far more to the south of the old building, and about 75% of the covered part of the platforms will be west of the building.

Once at the Curzon St entrance just past Moor St station still the walk to the barrier line followed by the platform. Right to the front of a 400m train would add 5 minutes, maybe more? For a 200m train 2.5 / 3 minutes?

From arriving at New Street, walking from the platform to the stairs/escalator, then through the barriers and the grotty way seen in the video by Gareth Dennis to Curzon street the best reliable connection time 15 minutes? Via Stephenson Street and New Street even if quiet a little longer. For the less mobile in time the tram but even if the tram leaves immediately after boarding how long to get through the barriers at Curzon Street?

A more direct route is straight through the underpass on the left of the steps used in the video, although this isn't a very pleasant walk.

The entire area outside the main station entrance on Moor St will be altered, there have been a number of Birmingham council sponsored “masterplan” type documents published. I would take the view that videos of how it is today are of little relevance. It might be a totally different streetscape by opening day.

You're suggesting the Bullring shopping centre will be demolished?

That is the biggest obstacle between Moor Street Queensway and New Street and I can't see anything to suggest it's going anywhere...

Just need to tart up the underpass in some fashion. No one has ever proposed demolishing that part of the Bullring.

Not at all.

In which case, the video is still very relevant and the streetscape will remain largely unchanged, the walk between Moor Street and New Street will involve a walk through a dingy underpass or up the stairs and over the top..

There have been various interventions suggested to the underpass under the bull ring these vary from some lighting and paving works through building a dedicated transfer 'tunnel' within the existing underpass by roofing\partitioning off the existing pavement to closing the bus\taxi lane and extending the shops into the underpass.

It is possible to make such places much nicer - the tunnel between Kings Cross tube station and the developments to the north is a good example

Ha, sorry, my compass seems to be mis-alligned.
The west/southwest of the old building is correct

Yeah, that's probably the most pleasant way of doing it, though also the longest, especially on a Saturday afternoon when the Bullring is busy.

Closing the road would probably be a big improvement, it's not a heavily used road anyway, apart from buses but they can be rerouted.

Having shops that face out onto the pavement would be a big improvement, it could almost mirror the underpass under Glasgow Central.

I think a single lane bus gate would be the best option, but it needs good lighting and something to make it look safe. To not have buses stopping there would be a mistake - outside the main train station for the city and the most convenient place for buses routed south.

Unfortunately it's also fire escapes for a number of units so the current path needs to be fully accessible. However, you could use the closed lane to house say coffee shops or similar?

DfT press Release, Rail Minisister, An Australian minister (no idea why) and Mayor of West Midlands, visit and update

Once built, HS2’s Curzon Street Station will be one of the most environmentally friendly stations in the world and eventually welcome 9 high-speed services per hour into the city centre. With 7 terminal platforms, it will form part of HS2’s opening phase, with the first services expected to run from West London into the station by 2033, serving around 25,000 passengers a day.

Pass the future Curzon Street station and it seems the viaduct is coming along at a Pace on what seems to be a new section being built.
