HS2 Ltd announced a few weeks ago that they have procured a £3M licence from SNCF to use its existing high speed OLE on the HS2, phase 1, route.

I can't find anything on the web about this - does anyone know anything more about it?

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.

High Speed 2 (HS2) Ltd has procured a £3M licence from French rail operator SNCF to use its existing high speed overhead catenary system (OCS) on the HS2 phase 1 route.

The contract with SNCF is part of the Railway Systems package which includes signalling, communications, power and track.

HS2 said although the rest of the package would be tendered in due course.....

Seems a sensible decision. Proven, off-the-shelf design as per TGV lines + HS1, not tied into any specific suppliers so UK companies free to bid to supply components.
