Blocking one or the other operator will result in either no Sunday service or Hollymoorside not being served. Neither offering replicates what's there currently so if I were DCC I'd support both if only for the very short term. Yes, it's very messy, but these things usually are.
A similar thing happened when Stephensons of Easingwold ceased and both Reliance and Transdev took on the same. Eventually a joint timetable was agreed on, Transdev pulled out and the subsquently took over completely when Reliance sold them their services.

From observation, I don't think even the school runs carry enough to justify anything bigger.
But its hardly like the 172,173 and 178 are any different. I feel this'll just lead to the service getting less well used and then reduced until there's nothing left. The Anthony Gell runs are always packed anyway.

It seems unfair to me that the 63,170,171,172,173,178 and 257 will all be operated by respected and competant bus operators, but the 110 and 111 will be stuck with ****ty Mercedes Minibuses. Great.
Maybe that is all that is needed and/or maybe they were the only bidder?

Derbyshire County Council facebook page is now saying in comments and their edited original post that the 257 will be Andrew's of Tideswell rather than Limburg - still no timetable though.
Initially awarded to Linburg but gather there has been a change of mind on their part.

We need somebody on the gate at Andrews tomorrow, will be interesting to see what fleet they are able to put together at this short notice.

Looks like hulleys has ceased all ready nothing on the road now
Probably why some of the replacements will run tomorrow and not start Thursday.
Drivers have probably been told they won’t get paid so are returning to depot. Awful awful position to be in as a driver.

Very sad way for this to end.
And utterly pointless. The Receivers are running things now and won't just walk out of the office and hand over a wad of cash.

Also, the Receivers need all the money they can get to pay off as much of the debt as possible, thus stopping buses going out in to service and earning some money seems highly counter productive to me!

Highly likely and highly unfortunate for those affected. Does go to show however how dire the situation was. The letter to staff stated it was the forthcoming insurance payment due tomorrow that was the major financial factor. However, it doesn't appear they even had funds to pay wages beyond yesterday.

I think there will be a few reasons why - there is possibly no management left (Mathew and Alf were the only managers as far as I'm aware), the longer that buses are out in service the more chance of issues occuring (such as breakdowns which would mean they have to somehow pay for a tow truck without actually having any money to do so), the company is in debt of £1.5m I think so a few hours of running buses isnt really going to help much

It's been confirmed by a driver that debt collectors have come in with all buses being ordered back to depot.

This photo shows the message sent to driver's on their machines. FB_IMG_1742925904667.jpg

This is now the end.

No doubt something like this was anticipated. Had to be given Stagecoach said it would start on the 170 tomorrow. DCC would obviously have had to officially say the contracts would be starting on Thursday as Wednesday was the planned last day. But they must have anticipated it could have happened earlier.

Hopefully all the new operators are ready.

I do wonder whats stopping the drivers from just refusing to take the bus back to the depot and instead abandoning it right where they are - considering it looks like either way they wont be getting paid

Judging by the time it was sent it seems some drivers ignored that for a couple of hours - the last bus was still in service at 17:45
Many buses would be on schools at that time. Can hardly blame drivers for making sure kids got home.

I guess it depends where their cars are parked

Well, I'd assume most of them will have cars parked at the depot so a bit hard to get home otherwise!

Good on them for doing that, I've absolutely not got a problem with the drivers carrying on, I just thought I'd point it out

Fair point

Is it possible, that some of the vehicles, certainly those in best condition, may be moving to the replacement operators for tomorrow, at least in the short term.

And how do they get back to the depot without the bus?

Will depend if the Receivers are willing to sell them at a price the new operators are willing to pay

It’s possible some of the leased vehicles might move over but unlikely in the short term. I’m pretty certain all the operators will have sourced vehicles and are prepping them for service.

I would think not. The replacement operator will not want to be associated with this mess and will have already got their vehicles lined up.
