Aye. There is a trick here. Let me remind you that the unit this class indirectly replaced can still be found south of the M4, in spite of its age.

LU 1983 Stock

Replaced 72 stock, still used on the Bakerloo...

And none have been scrapped, all sat in depots... or as an artist's workshop, etc.

Bad news for our roving rangers Class172 and gg1:

LU 1983 Stock

This is correct. If you think about the clues exactly as written, you could also argue that the 1972 stock was itself a replacement for the 1938 stock (making the 1983 stock its indirect replacement given they coincided; this was the trick element to the clue) - which is still found on the Island Line.

The unusual feature was the single-leaf door, which is still in use on D stock units. And of course the route upgrade was the Jubilee Line Extension to Stratford.

Thankyou muchly...

I used (and still use, in most of me) the same type of traction equipment as the last train class to be built at a factory within 100 miles of where I sit now (Bolton, Lancs) but am now having this changed for a different traction system made by a company that is contrivertal at the moment with one of their UK rail projects.

If that is too hard, let me know and you can have some more clues.

Networker 465; having their traction equipment replaced by the Hitachi version, the controvery being the IEP?

Open floor.

( PS About half the 1983 stock was scrapped wasn't it? )

Anyone else, I don't think this is that hard...

Last thing to be built at a factory within 100mi of Bolton, same type of drive system as something else that is having it's drive system changed, want to know the one that is having it changed.

Correct, the unit being built near me the 323, networkers also using GTO Thyistor drives at relatively low switching frequencies.

And I'll take it again...

I'm a 'newer' version of stock basically the same in use on a different line with two branches, my line has no branches and the stock in use on my line that I am has recently had a carriage added, we both operate in the same passenger transport executive. My stock replaced some not very old stock that was classed as not very suitable, it also uses the same drive system as the last peice of stock.

(This should take you about 30seconds the amount of clues there...!)

Sounds like the S stock, being a newer version of the class 378 design?

Except for the branches bit.....??

Open floor if it is anyway.

Nope, is a bit older than that...

Also note the '' around the newer, it's a newer designation, but not essentially a newer design. And remember it replaced stock not that much older.

Not a 171, I operate entirely inside one Passenger Transport Executive

I'll add another clue for you, this type of unit has never carried a TOPS number.

Nope, the unit has a newer classification than it's sister, but uses an older design.

Remember, uses the same kind of drive system as my previous 'thinking of'
