I've entered Galway-Cork into irishrail.ie and it's given me route options via Limerick, via Portarlington and via Dublin, all at the same price. Does that mean if I walked up at Galway and bought a single to Cork, I could take any one of those routes for €35.00? Or are those journey-specific advance fares?

Many thanks.

Given the length of journey I'm inclined to say they're advance tickets but lets wait and see what an expert says...

It will cost you 56 euro on the day, the website shouldn't be showing those fares as they can't be booked. It will be 56 euro

MK Tom, hope you had a pleasant visit.

A possible explanation is that it's a promotional fare.

In my experience promotional fares on CIÉ services (both rail and bus) are not always well advertised/ known about. Sometimes they don't seem to be advertised at all.

Yes, my friend got an advance ticket in Ireland once. It could not be bought in advance only from the booking office on the day.
