Unbelievably ridiculous name. There are a lot of stations out there with really stupid names, but this one really takes the michael.
At least it isn't being called "Stationy McStationface".

EDIT- Just seen someone made a very similar comment. I'll get me coat!

Elsewhere on the network, everyone thinks Headbolt Lane is a wonderful name...except me!
I can't recall that name ever being given anything but the most feint praise, on here or elsewhere.

Still not in the league of Norwood Junction's original name when it opened in 1838 till the first rebuild: Jolly Sailor (after the well known adjacent pub)

Great name! Love it.
if locals feel passionate about it why not?
I'm happy that Moseley *Village* was chosen even though it's no longer a "village" as it's part of Brum it's often referred to as such by locals. Having born there I would be very keen to use the station when it opens (originally closed 1941)

If there isn't a pineapple on the totem instead of the BR double arrow, I will be most disappointed.

Bonus points for a mocked up LU/pineapple ring roundel sign.

If you're using this station, the likelihood is that either a) you live nearby and as such know of the road, Pineapple Road, or b) you know someone who lives nearby and they will mention that you will be able to catch the train to Pineapple Road station. Obviously that won't cover everyone but the station's name being less descriptive than it could be is very unlikely to be an actual issue.

Excellent name. And look at this page and a half length thread's worth of free advertising it's getting!

It also reduces the risk of confusion with Mossley [Manchester]

On a related point - can I argue that if "Moseley Village" has to go to the effort of stating to be a "village" by placing it into it's title - it's not a village.

The wider area it actually serves though would surely be considered just Moseley?

But, Pineapple, lolz...

Whqat is important about a name is that it does not mislead people and cause them to end up in the wrong place, this will not so is a good name.

The mayor posted a picture of himself eating one of those supermarket boxes of pre cut pineapple chunks

If we can get Brent Cross West renamed to "Staples Corner", maybe we can get Mayor Khan to eat staples.

Likewise Fenchurch Street.
More confusing is that Hammersmith Hospital is nowhere near Hammersmith station, but presumably used to be. Am I the only visitor to have been misled? It would be better to rename the hospital.

I see no issue personally. I think it’s a great name. Also, regarding something like Hammersmith Hospital, I’d just check. I’m going to Hammersmith Hospital, nearest tube is Hammersmith? Oh, no, it’s actually <insert station here>. Cool. No problem.

I wouldn’t suggest naming a big central terminal without the place name. But a suburban station where most usage is local. No problem.

I didn't even know there was a Hammersmith Hospital. Looking it up it is bizarrely far from Hammersmith, but Lewisham Hosptial is closer to Ladywell...

Charing Cross hospital...
I've been asked to go there in the past and thought "There's a hospital at Charing Cross?! Urgh, I don't want to drive to Charing Cross.", set the satnav, headed off and got very confused about where I was heading. But also happy I didn't need to drive where I thought I did

I like the name. And Pineapple Road seems a reasonably important road, so it's not as if they've picked some tiny cul-de-sac just because it has a memorable name.

I think the naysayers just think ‘pineapple’ is a silly word in itself. Nothing more than that. If a station was built on one of the many Cherry Tree Avenues, would ‘Cherry Tree Station’ get the same reaction?

I don’t think it’s any more ridiculous than Ham Street, Strawberry Hill, Turkey Street or Bat & Ball. I’d also argue it’s more accurate/relevant than University (could be any University) or something like Acton Mainline (could imply many mainline trains stopping, I’d understand someone assuming that).

Much better than White Rose Centre, which will be about 1/4 of a mile from the nearest entrance to the shopping mall. It would make more sense to treat it as a rebuild of nearby Cottingley (which will end up with a parly service) and rename it "Cottingley for the White Rose Centre". That way you aren't misleading anyone, and don't need to retain the older platforms for a two calls a day.

Surely it's time for a Fruit & Veg based station name thread :

Cherry Tree
Strawberry Hill (both from above)
Liverpool Lime Street
Limehouse
Appleby
Peartree
err.. Broccoli Whins
Marrow & Wealdstone.

Perhaps not. I'll get me coat.
