On each route, the Network Statement section 3 specifies maximum train length permitted

At present this is :
As a general guide the following are train lengths that may be accepted without the need for any restriction:
• for passenger trains - up to 230 metres in length
• for freight trains – up to 448 metres in length

No mention is made for a maximum length for infrastructure trains, operated by Network Rail!

Off to the ongoing engineering work between Darlington and Northallerton. The worksite is currently between Darlington South Jnc and East Cowton Crossovers on the "up". Trains travelling in the "up" direction travel bang road past the worksite and cross back over at Cowton.

The HOBC (Operated by Freightliner) has been working out of Doncaster Decoy to the worksite in Top 'n' Tail formation with a pair of 66/5s or 66/6s and is split into 2 portions on arrival at the worksite.
