Right, for starters:

Fare Validities

Economy Return (ECR)

Valid on all days except all Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between June and September inclusive.

Low Saver (LSR)

Valid on all days.

Passengers travelling outward and return in different periods to be charged the HIGHER price.

Period of Validity of Tickets

An SOS Single ticket is valid for travel on the date shown on the ticket providing appropriate reservations are also held.

An ECR Return ticket is valid for outward and return travel on the date shown on the ticket and on any other day within one month providing appropriate reservations are also held.

Railcard Discounts

Holders of 16-25, Senior, Disabled and Family & Friends Railcards can purchase, Low Saver (LSR) and Economy Return (ECR) tickets at special Railcard Discounted Prices as shown below. Standard Railcard discounts do not apply.

Holders of Family & Friends Railcards may be accompanied by up to 4 children aged from 5 and under 16 for a Throughout Rail/Ship fare of £20.00 return each.

Restriction : 6N
VIRGIN ECONOMY TO ISLE OF MAN

OUTWARD TRAVEL
Valid only on date shown.

RETURN TRAVEL
Valid on date shown or within
one calendar month.

The only restriction seems to be no travel on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays June-September and you must have compulsory ship reservations.

Nothing seems to restrict Break of Journey, so I am confident it is permitted. I assume you will go Douglas-Liverpool-Warrington(Break)-Leeds-Hull ?

This is were is gets a bit messy.

As the boat only goes to Heysham on the day i need to travel, I am thinking of the following route.....

IOM - Heysham Port - Lancaster - Warrington (break overnight to visit folks) - Manchester - Hull

From what I can see in the routing guide its a permitted route, just not sure if i can break in Warrington

I don't think we know enough to be able to advise whether you are allowed to break the outward leg of this journey overnight and resume it the next day. We have a number of difficulties:

  • The validity code for many journeys wholly by rail in Britain includes information about whether you are allowed to break your journey overnight and what restrictions (if any) are placed on resuming the journey on another day. The code for a journey Douglas IOM - Hull route Isle Of Man SPC does not include this information.
  • For a Douglas IOM to Hull journey, validity code 6N is quoted. This is headed "VIRGIN ECONOMY TO ISLE OF MAN". This makes me wonder whether 6N is an erroneous code.
  • The Restriction quoted by First class does not mention break of journey. Therefore the National Rail Conditions of Carriage Condition 16 entitles a passenger to "start, or break and resume, a journey ... at any intermediate station, as long as the ticket you hold is valid for the trains you want to use".
  • Validity code 6N includes "OUTWARD TRAVEL Valid only on date shown", suggesting that resuming the journey on the second day may not be allowed.

Just been playing about on the National Rail website and noticed the new 2together railcard has no effect of IOM rail & sail fares, is this correct or an error?

Sorry to hijack thread, I have a ferry crossing question.

Is it possible to get an all in Priv ticket to the Isle of Wight from the mainland. I have an EMT/SWT staff pass and would like to have a ride out to the IOW.

I believe Heysham Port to Lancaster trains are rail replacement buses for the time being BUT I've not been in Lancaster this summer so could someone double check please?

Trains have been running again since the Arnside Viaduct work has finished.
