Thought I would start one of these for KWVR stuff.

I had a nice day out today 20/04/25 on the line with some lovely sunny weather.

Sadly trains were very delayed due to lineside fires (attributed to 75078 by station staff) and some chaos around swapping said steamer for a diesel (think the 37) but in the end giving up and carrying on with the 4MT!

The big kettle was supposed to run slow speed but didn't really! Perhaps no one told the footplate crew ;)

41241 was on the other service and was running well

Thanks for starting the thread. Mention of 41241 gives me an excuse to post this shot from Friday...

It was working top & tail with the 14, with D0226 out too on load two.

In other news, a Colas 37 will be coming to the diesel gala.

Been a tough few weeks for lineside fires. It's been so dry, and with the gradients the engines work hard all the way from Keighley to Oxenhope. Raining today so hopefully that will help but I suspect it won't last long.

There were lots of scorched areas visible all along the line.

There were a number of fires during the steam gala. On one occasion, water from one of the locos was used to extinguish a fire just outside Ingrow.

...via a LE movement which caught me by surprise when I was expecting the locos to be working the non-stop.

Stopping service trains to "water the grass" isn't uncommon - happened at least once on Saturday to my knowledge.

75078 at fault presumably - slightly embarrassing to those of us who highlight its SR provenance :)

Great to have a thread for this excellent railway.

Last time I checked annual membership was £35 and included 4 free day rovers (plus other benefits), so I would strongly recommend such a subscription for anyone able to visit multiple times a year, as this is a nice money saver :)

There is a bit of me that thinks it is best for the KWVR to plod on and put efforts in to spotting and suppressing lineside fires.

The reason is the vegetation is only going to get drier over the rest of spring and summer. So then anything will start a fire, not just steam engines. BUT the big difference is the fires will spread faster. So more chance of serious damage/disruption.
Better to have a few more controlled burning sessions now than a worse fire later on caused by a discarded cigarette, barbecue or just plain naughtiness.

MODS - a new thread ?.

One of the benefits of membership is a discount at the on-train bar. As I like to say, the more you drink, the more you save.

Apparently they have Morris Dancers at Keighley today.

And the Vintage Trains are running this weekend.

I see that 20031 has been painted green with small yellow panels.

I was hoping for blue, but then I want everything blue. Or large logo blue.

I was also hoping for blue, but green is better than the dreary grey it was in and matches the coaching stock, so probably the second best option. They’ve done a nice job on it, and it has completely changed the character of the locomotive. I’m looking forward to it running again.

50021 has been announced as a further guest loco for the Diesel Gala. Also attended last year.

So that's English Electric 3, Sulzer 1.

47715 added to the roster too, which is nice for me, especially given 47714 is on the roster too. The rumour mill saying that 50021 is (no pun intended) 50/50 for the gala with an earth fault. I'm no sparky or mechanical engineer, so not sure if that's a quick fix or not.

37075 seems to have been taken off the roster. Anyone know what happened to it?
I overheard someone say a fault to do with ‘earthing’ or something like that the other day. Someone more technical can probably tell us if that’s a real thing or wibble…

See i was told that about 50021, maybe that whisper was thought to be around 50021. Iskra, I'd heard similar yesterday, that 37075 was out of the Gala and they may go for another loco to fill in for the colas 37s appearance, so they can hopefully use the Colas 37 to replace 37075s turns on the Friday, rather just be used on Saturday n Sunday. It promises to be another good un at the KWVR again.

There are two sorts of 'Earthing' faults. The most common is a voltage getting to earth when it shouldn't, tripping out fuses or circuit breakers and preventing proper operation. The less common fault is where something should be earthed to work properly but isn't, so it doesn't work as it should. Both problems can be difficult to locate and cure, particularly on elderly equipment!

Thank you for explanation John. It also sounds like me trying to function or have a meaningful conversation without a coffee first thing in the morning or getting up for a pee at 4am. As of now, I'm gonna call them my earthing fault.

If they manage to confine the 47s to one set of stock, it makes life easier for the rest of us!

Confirmed fault from the KWVR now,so has been withdrawn. 37508 is its replacement, and an air braked rake of mark 1s from WCR has also been confirmed, so it will be able to haul trains.

May I suggest too much wibble and a more down to earth conversation is needed.

I'll get my coat.
