There has been a serious landslip at Tribble bridge between Bishops Lydeard and Crowcombe, There is a video of it on the WSR facebook page. However nothing as of yet on the company website. Apparrently the seasons remaining Santa and winterlights trains will now be running on the Norton Fitzwarren section.

That may make them of shorter duration?

It's on the WSR Facebook page with the CEO explaining what's occurred, though one has to strain to hear as he is too close to a loco or other source of noise.

Is concrete plus better cess drainbs the solution?

That is a shame, I wonder how long it will take to clear it and normal services can resume.?

You could ask the Glos Warks , they've had to deal with a couple of similar issues. The film shows the embankment has slipped and a retaining wall collapsed. This isn't a quick fix job also a wodge of money is required that I doubt the WSR has as it's in a weak financial position. A claim on the landowner's insurance will be made but then liability has to be admitted and this could drag on. The trackbed is owned by the local authority so they may stump up the cost in the short term. In the meantime I doubt anyone, in this age of risk aversion, will be foolhardy enough to allow trains to pass.

This incident of heavy rain falling on ploughed land and running down furrows, thus causing water and soil onto the railway land and line below and saturating the cess, track drainage system and formation to the extent that the embankment has become unstable and slipped, is a stark reminder of the need for Infrastructure owners and managers to regularly check the state of land adjoining their boundaries; especially where fields are ploughed with furrows end on ( as opposed to parallel) to a boundary at the top of a cutting, and take relevant action.

Similar issues have affected the A358 Taunton to Minehead road earlier in the year. The photos here show the road blocked by soil washed off a potato field under one of the WSR bridges at Combe Florey near Bishop's Lydeard:
A clean-up operation is underway at a busy Somerset route after a mudslide. Crews are working at the A358 in West Somerset today (August 16) after a large amount of mud was left on the road following torrential downpours.
The route was closed at Combe Florey near Bishop's Lydeard on Monday (August 15) after the heavy rain. It remained shut at lunchtime today.
Possibly the same fields have drained onto the railway this time?
