my friend has been let down by taxi company (turned up 50 minutes late missed his advance ticket train from leeds to london)

He has a railcard and is wanting the cheapest possible single to reading, i can only find 58.10 as i have no idea where good splitting points are. Any help asap appreciated.

Single or return?
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Assuming singles:

Leeds-Sheffield NOT DONCASTER CDS £6.15
Sheffield-Derby CDS £6.25
Derby-Coventry CDS £9.85 (note: restriction BX, see below)
Coventry-Leamington Spa SDS £2.65
Leamington Spa - Banbury SDS £4.25
Banbury- Reading CDS £6.95

May not be the cheapest, no-one has yet devised a method to calculate the cheapest!

All the above are valid for the rest of today except DBY-COV BX states:
"Restriction : BX
OUTWARD/RETURN
By any train except those
timed to depart Mondays to
Fridays before 0930 or between
1530 and 1815 "
This means that ticket is not valid for departure from Derby between 1530 & 1815... unless evening peak restrictions are lifted for today, can't find any confirmation on that though. Failing that, the SDS is £10.45 (and the excess would therefore be £0.60 payable on board)

Total is around £36

A through single is over £58.

So he saves over £22

split at every station?

sheffield, derby, birmingham, leamington, banbury is £57.20, without the railcard discount (so, I guess about £37.75). (or a bit more if an Anytime is needed from Derby to Birmingham, as yorkie pointed out).

So he is just getting a ticket and going via london as i advised him the trains are better and your more likely to get a seat :) Thanks anyway yorkie, we didnt think taxi company would cough up any money so thats why i asked.

I will remember the splitting for next time he goes down there though!

There is a direct train at 16:40, 10 minute seat reservations may be available.

(Doesn't stop at Coventry, if splitting tickets).

I wouldn't really want to be doing Paddington to Reading this evening!
