And a ScotRail-liveried 170 coming into Platform Zero (I think they mean Platform 0). In retrospect it looks a bit like Bradford Forster Square. That's not a compliment.
Speaking as a Spin Doctor it's probably more that they're repeating what they've been told by someone, somewhere. The canopy would have to be hacked back to the point where it might as well be replaced, especially if the northern-most set of supporting columns has to come out to allow the track to run behind the car park. Which could then make it a safety issue, as the remaining structure might not be as stable.
I may be doing them a disservice of course, and there may well have been an engineering note upon completion at Leeds 1st that said "Oh - don't forget to remove the old Midland Railway canopy in 2020, it'll be rotted through by then"...
