Hello everyone and thanks for all of your previous help.

Can anyone suggest the cheapest way for the following journey. We don't mind how many changes we make or how long it takes.

Wednesday 5 April
2 people. Both with senior railcards
Leicester to Salisbury
Need to arrive in Salisbury at 3.30pm or earlier.
One way.

In the past people have suggested various tricks including regional one day travel cards etc.

Thanks for any help which will be much appreciated by two pensioners.

All the best

Leicester 0751 - Birmingham International 0913 is currently £5.90 each.

Birmingham International 1100 - Salisbury 1442 is currently at £9.25 each, and only has two tickets left. You may need to specify "Via London" in your searches.

This is unlikely to be beaten so if you want these prices, you need to act asap.

Hi and many thanks bb21.

I couldn't see those prices and anyway we now need to go down on either Thursday or Friday.

Can anyone help with those days? I don't seem able to find anything.

Thanks for any help

The £5.90 fare is available on both Thursday and Friday.

Birmingham Int - Salisbury is £11.20 each on a variety of departures on Fri 7th so you have many choices and won't have to wait around the station for long.

Thursday is a little trickier. There are still £9.25 fares on the 1150 departure from Birmingham International, but that doesn't get you into Salisbury until 1542. The 1130 departure will get in at 1520 and costs £11.20. Whether you can get those fares will depend on how flexible on arrival times you are as with the latter you still only have 10 minutes buffer in case of delays.

You need to specify "Via London" to get these fares between Birmingham International and Salisbury, to filter out trains via Reading. The Leicester - Birmingham International fares should come up automatically.

I used gwr.com to check the fares. All prices are per person with Railcard discount.

Thanks. Bought them. We decided on Friday because we could go at an earlier time.
Total cost was:
2 senior rail card holders Leicester to Birmingham international £11.80
2 senior rail card holders Birmingham international to Salisbury £22.40

MANY many thanks bb21. You literally saved us a fortune.

Very best wishes

Many many thanks bb21.

We successfully travelled to Salisbury at the excellent price you found. We were particularly pleased as we have had some rather large (for us) expenses recently and being pensioners our finances are not terribly healthy.

Very best wishes
