Lincoln to Guildford on 18/10

Hi, looking for a friend to go from Lincoln to Guildford, leaving on Friday 18th October (after 5pm) and returning Sunday 20th October (afternoon time). Prices are currently at about £40 on Advances (with 16-25 Railcard), was wondering if anyone has any ingenious ideas to bring it down at all?

With Y-P. £20.40 Advance Single on the 16.44 or 18.18 from Lincoln Central on the Friday.

If you can hold off until the early evening on the Sunday the 18.41 from Guildford is £16.15 advance single arriving at 22.37 in Lincoln.

Total £36.55 using the East Coast website.

I also considered attempting to get an advance single to Kings Cross with a One Day Travelcard, but couldn't find the option on the EC website, with a boundary zone 6 single to Guildford.

There is no inclusive Day Travelcard with a ticket from Lincoln.
