Looks like a big flame coming from a Class 455 at Berrylands.

Rush hour commuters evacuated from train after 'major' track fire as neighbours hear 'three big booms'
Passengers have been cleared from a South Western Railway train after the blaze broke out near Berrylands station on the line between Clapham Junction and Woking

Indeed. Plenty of reports about it being an electrical fire, this picture seems to suggest that it is (at least) underneath the leading car, which seems like an odd place for it to develop, as there isn't much in the way of heavy electrical equipment.

Ok

Swr journey check reporting no train on fire, but lineside fire..
Indeed it does, looking at the picture, it appeared to be coming from underneath the train but could well be the track.

Well that pic in post #3 certainly looks like the train will soon be on fire if it's not already....

Report from a friend onboard that there was an odd smell and fireworks sounds after leaving New Malden. Guard marshalled passengers into the rear 4 coaches and detrained at Berrylands where the fire took hold. Found a decent pic on Twitter.

Good job it was on the slow lines - was it booked to be on the slows, or did it change?

The 3rd rail pick up shoes on that bogie and the cables from it are fairly major pieces of electrical kit. The fuse (pre AC conversion) and now main breaker is just below the "south"

Booked on the slow, as it wasn't the 18:52 to Guildford (which is the first 455 booked on the fast in the evening) since I went past it on the 18:32 to Basingstoke. Which then went straight past Surbiton, because the 18:23 to Basingstoke seemed to be having problems in P3 there, causing half the passengers on the 18:32 to have to go to Surbiton via Esher. Oh well, another delay repay claim...

Seems to be the 18:05 to Hampton Court, as canx at Berrylands.

The passengers seem to be suggesting the train passed through a line side fire which set the train alight. They said they were opening windows to try and get rid of smoke before it reached the station.

Not to mention the platform, which if I remember rightly is wooden. Does anyone know if there was any damage?
