The Ped from Chinnor was featured in 'The Royal' on ITV1 where it was flipped onto its side and it was also featured in BBC Three's 'The Wrong Door' where it was taken over by Brian Blessed for his "Sky Pirates"...

47402 featured in the BBC1 series 'Life on Mars' in 2007. This quote is taken from the "Class 47 News" website.

As many may have seen, 47402 on Tuesday starred in the BBC1 series 'Life on Mars' which was set in 1973. Filmed at the East Lancashire Railway, 402 was involved with some filiming in which the train was carrying the main cast to a quarry with a robbery occuring along the way at Summerseat Tunnel. Beforehand, there was even some (brief) clag footage at Bury Bolton Street.

Unidentified Deltics in the title sequence of 'Get carter', 1971 ECML.

Someone has annoyingly put a remix of the theme song over this one

I'll think of some more later, there is whole books on the subject, for example Horton's Guide to Britain's Railways in Feature Films.

I would imagine there would be a very long list for you lot. Some that come to mind are:

- 'St Trinians Great train robbery'
- Some episodes of 'Dads Army'
- One particular episode of 'Steptoe & Son' might have been one of the films they did.
- A number of episodes of 'Allo Allo', assuming it wasn't filmed in France.
- Many, many episodes of 'The Bill'.
- I recall an episode of 'Some Mothers do have em'.
- 'Top Gear'.
- A number of episodes of 'Heart Beat', opening credits featured a steam train IIRC.
- 'Carry on Spying', if thats the right one featured trains, IIRC it was filmed in Britain.
- There was a train journey in the James Bond film 'The Spy who loved me'? The one with Jaws and not 'Moonraker'.
- 'Oliver Twist', there was a scene where young Oliver is almost hit by a train and is rescued by a 'Bow Street Runner/bobby' if that's what they called them?

I think I did pretty good there considering.

There's a GP40 in The Fast And The Furious, can't remember which company it is though.

BNSF I think. It was orange. Although, both Union Pacific and BNSF have orange liveries so it could be either! :p

See that was my first though, but I just had a look on youtube, and it's definately not BNSF or UP, it's mostly black. I know the livery, but I can't think which company it is, I think it's relatively obscure.

I've found it, it's the Santa Clarita Railroad (SCRX):

In "The Fourth Protocol" there was a 312 that pulled into Colchester North Station where one of the cast jumped out the other side and ran across the tracks.

Also, although not specificaly a train, a scene during the first Mission Impossible featured Liverpool Street Station.

Locomotive film & TV stars?

How come no one's mentioned the original Ladykillers - no 'star' as such, but the railway plays a huge part!

Or, even more so, the Titfield Thunderbolt - Lion and the 14XX each have big parts, and there are a couple of 'West Country' light pacifics in there too!

Goldeneye! of course, how could I forget that one!

Listing films and TV shows could go on for ever you know, especially as no limitations have been given.

For those that know the story of Ned Kelly? Well a film staring the late Heath Ledger titled 'Ned Kelly' filmed not far from me featured a K class steam train at my local rail heritage group.

Any one who loves a good Aussie crime drama would know 'Blue Heelers', it had many episodes filmed at country and suburban train stations in Victoria.

The Aussie film 'Take Away' was filmed across the road from the railway line in Darebin, in Melb's north east and in a few scenes you can see the train.

Police action drama 'Rush' recently aired an episode at Southern Cross station. People at the station might have been a bit worried seeing a man with a rocket launcher though lol.

New York subway is featured in a few films, 'Money Train', 'Rush Hour' and in TV show's 'Seinfeld' and 'Law & Order'. In los Angelas the subway there is featured in a few films, 'Speed' and another that I can't remember. Chicago trains are featured in one of the 'Blues Brothers' films and 'Spider Man'.

One of the 'Superman' films starts with Superman out running a high speed train.

Homeward Bound, the first one near the end is filmed at a fright yard and the 2 dogs and the cat narrowly avoid being hit by a train.

Home Alone 1, see's a passenger train while Kevin is walking home from the grocery store.

One hard to miss, Harry Potter, the Hogwarts express.

I'm sure wiki or someone other site might have more to list than what I have in my memory. Given the long history of film and television trains probably make more appearances than most could ever list.

80002 is currently featuring in Head and Shoulders ads on commercial TV. The ad was quite clearly shot at Keighley on the K&WVR.
