London-Banbury with Oyster Z1-4 monthly.

A friend needs to travel from London to Banbury next Saturday, and return the same day. She has a Z1-4 monthly season loaded onto Oyster, along with some PAYG credit.
I'm sure she's fine with a BZ4-Banbury return, but she's concerned with the return part. Because she won't be touching in at the start of the 'Oyster part', will she get a maximum charge, or will the Oyster system assume that she started her journey inside her valid zones?

Where is her return journey to? Will it be a station inside her zonal validity?

If so, then there is no problem just touching out with no corresponding touch-in.

If she touches out outside her zonal validity, say, at East Croydon, then a maximum fare will be charged I believe.

When she departs Marylebone she'll need to touch in to get through the barriers. It will show in her journey history as an incomplete journey but she will not be charged for it.

When she returns to Marylebone she'll need to touch out to get through the barriers. Again, it will show as an incomplete journey but she will not be charged for it.

As bb21 says, the system can sometimes get confused if she then travels from Marylebone to somewhere else outside her valid zones. Breaking the journey, e.g. by touching in on a bus, would be a way of preventing the system getting confused in this way.

Where was her Travelcard issued? If it was issued by a Chiltern Railways station it is valid on weekends on all Chiltern Railways services (network-wide) with no further ticket needed.
