Fixed that for you ;)

You need to put the bit after watch?v= in tags to get it to work. So it looks like vv640aRwFS8

Or the original 1960s version in the Blue Pullman

Using the "rabbit hole" just south of Sheffield for a start!

Its great isn't it - the problem I have with this video is that in the first few minutes you appreciate just how much bigger the railway infrastructure is at the London end (coming out of St P now you have the CTRL, the electrified lines as far as Bedford etc)...

...but in the last thirty seconds you appreciate just how many cut backs there have been at the Sheffield end of the route (Dore used to have four platforms but now just had one, a couple of other stations existed between Dore and Sheffield Midland, the "dive under"was still in use...).

Cheers for posting ainsworth74

The video in the OP is awesome!

When was it filmed? I'm guessing late 70s / early 80s.

Just a shame that there are some places labelled on the video, I got lost after we passed through the fifth station. The amount of work that has occurred on Thameslink since the video was made makes most of this south of Bedford unrecognisable.

Great music in it too!

There is a post Evergreen 3 Moor Street to Marylebone in two minutes on TheChilternMainline YouTube channel.

Personally I think its sped up a little bit too much (should be at least half the speed to make some things easier to see) but it might be of interest to some of you.

It's going to be somewhere between 1974 & 1976 the London - Sheffield run was filmed. There's a clip of the APT-E passing somewhere around Bedford on a test run which would date it to around then.

Boy has that line changed a lot since those days...:|

The final frame showing the sign at Sheffield is more recent - BR Intercity days methinks given the red lampost.;)

I can't believe how much the MML has changed, it looks like most of the stations south of Bedford have been rebuilt. The amount of stations etc threw me a bit after Chesterfield, I got Dronfield and Dore ML platforms, but there were a good few more. I can't believe how green it was so close to London, it only gets nice around Elstree now!

That sign at Sheffield is in the BRIC design, see Carlisle / Preston etc as examples still around today ;)

The main one I noticed was Leicester, complete with overall roof. It would have been about the same period that the station was rebuilt, I think.

In contrast, Derby looks almost exactly as it did until it was refurbished and rebuilt a few years ago.

Well there is a brief glimpse of the APT-E so mid 1970's?

Interesting at the start with all the men on the tracks south of Kentish Town and the now TL tracks not there.

The video looks like it could be a compilation of several runs however it is either 1973 or 1974 - the loco has a TOPS number (system went live '73) but the chord linking the MML with the GCR at Loughborough to access East Leake/Ruddington hasn't been built (finished in 1974).

One of the stations south of Sheffield will probably be Heeley (less than 1/4 mile from the rails of sheffield shop).

Highlights from the video:

4-track all the way to Kettering plus the extensive loops to Wigston. Four track through Knighton tunnel and south of Sheffield

The 1900s Leicester station

Market Harborough with original platform buildings (plus track on the LNWR side)

The yards at Wigston & Humberstone

The LD&ECR viaduct in Chestefield - only the span over the MML is missing at this point.

You don't need HS2 to increase capacity on the MML....put back what was taken!!:)
