I have been asked to arrange train tickets for a group of 8 Rangers (Guides) going to London for the weekend from Polegate. Four under <16 (actually all 14 & 15 years old) and four 16+. One of the 16+ holds a Family & Friends railcard. On the Friday and Sunday they need to get to and from London and on all three days they will be using the underground and buses.
The cheapest I have come up with is as follows:

  • Friday - Z1-6 Travelcard from Polegate - Adult Groupsave for the 16+ and £2 each for the <16s (total £75) (not utilising the return journey)
  • Saturday - Z1-6 Travelcard from Purley using the F&F railcard £44.40 (not utilising the Purley to London element, just the travel around London)
  • Sunday - Z1-6 Travelcard from Polegate - Adult Groupsave for the 16+ and £2 each for the <16s (total £75) (not utilising the outward journey)

Total of £194.40

Is that the cheapest and does anyone foresee any problems?

On the Saturday you can make a small saving if you use Groupsave for the Travelcard on the Saturday rather than the railcard. Thameslink's website for Potters Bar - London Zones 1-6 shows a Zones 1-6 Travelcard for 4 adults and 4 children at £42.60.

Note that all people in the group must travel together.
