A merry Christmas to all who read and contribute to this board and make it a great source of news and knowledge.

What is it, railway related, that you are looking forward to in 2017 and why?
The introduction of the exciting class 230 into passenger service?:D
Extension of electric services on GW?
etc etc

I'm looking forward to some loco hauled services arriving on TPE. Hopefully the pretendolino will see passenger use.

Hopefully some cascades resulting in less crowded Northern services.

The introduction of Northern Connect at the end of 2017 should be quite interesting, especially when it comes to the stock that is used.

Construction of HS2! (Epic!)

First Crossrail trains! (Lol, I don't even live in London, but okay...)

First IEPs! (J-Tech reigning our rails for once)

First improvements on the TPE! (Skip the cheeky pun ;))

All I can hope is that we get a few medium-profile electrification projects finished on time and within budget. That might be too much to ask though!

An end to the Southern Rail strikes, and a return to a rail service that is practical.

Oxford - Bletchley.
Why are we waiting?

Beautiful new junction at Bicester on this re-constructed line from Oxford for Chiltern's Oxford-Marylebone connection, BUT - and it's a very big 'but' - carry straight on under the Bicester line and . . .

What's this? One road just ends, the other takes on the characteristics of weed-grown siding. Then this siding crosses the Bicester eastern by-pass with a level crossing! Carry on as far as Calvert and, after picking up the top end of the Aylesbury line it fizzles out to just a track-bed jungle.

Completion of electrification between Glasgow and Edinburgh, the introduction of the 385s and the start of Glasgow Queen Street redevelopment.

DOO on all the Southern routes planned for it. It is nearly there. Three Bridges via the Arun valley to the coast, the coast line west from Brighton & Haywards Heath to Hove & all the way west went DOO this week. All there is to do is East Grinstead, coast east from Brighton & Haywards Heath to Hastings.

Confirmation that Edinburgh Tram extension is going ahead funded by City Deal.

'Rail to Renfrew' coming back onto the agenda after GARL 2 bites the dust.

Scotrail's PPM averaging 93%.

Definitely the 345s entering service – TFL rail is really unpleasant at peak times now!

Also the re-opening of the GOBLIN. I know we won't get the 710s until 2018, but it'll still be great to have the service back.

Given that we are facing much higher inflation there is going to be a really interesting moment in the Autumn...will the Government allow the current rules to stay in place with maybe 6-7% fare increases in 2018 or will they intervene. If they don't then how will the public react?

As for the Bristol and Westcountry electrification....

I did hear rumours the other day that the Pretendolino plan may not happen.

It'll be a waste if it doesn't. TPE are perfectly competent at running slam door trains, as they showed during the Tour de France.
