Hi All,
I've got a ticket for the Caledonian Sleeper bought with a 16-25 railcard for a few days time. My question is, what will happen when I try and board the train at Watford, do you know if I will be allowed on or will I be turned away?
Thanks

Your ticket will technically be invalid, so might be an idea to source a new railcard. Alternatively, if you still have the receipt or proof of purchase for the railcard, I believe the railcard can be re-issued at a station ticket office for a £10 admin fee.

I've managed to order a new railcard, however the delivery date is after the date I'm due to catch my train. I've heard I can fill out a form rather than pay the excess- do you know if this is the case on the sleeper?

A 16-25 railcard can be purchased froim a station ticket office. No need to order it online.

I think that the CS staff will be fine if you prove you bought a railcard and offer to send a picture of it +/- your ID later on. I think I've only ever been asked for my actual tickets once, and never had to show any railcards when I was eligible to use them.

They seem to rely on the compulsory reservation thing by assuming that if you've managed to reserve a seat you have a ticket.

One potential snag may be getting through barriers at Watford Junction, and also you may have trouble if you need to use trains on either side of the CS journey(s).

A digital railcard can be available immediately, and would have been one of the options when you ordered your 'new railcard' (this implies a new railcard not a replacement for a lost railcard). If you needed it urgently was there a reason why you did not order a digital version to be shown on a mobile phone?

I prefer physical tickets/railcards, I've had a few issues with digital codes before. Didn't get my ticket checked on the journey so didn't have any issues luckily

Ok. If you prefer physical tickets / railcards , and you wanted urgently did you think about visiting a physical booking office so you would get your railcard instantly.
I personally would not travel without a valid railcard. You were fortunate I think.

Inclined to concur. We've had any number of threads on the 'Disputes & Prosecutions' sub-forum from folk travelling without a valid railcard with them.

Didn't realise I could go the station, I'll bare that in mind for next time.

Probably wasn't the best idea, but I had the reference email and I've never had any sort of ticket check on this route before so I figured I should be ok

Caledonian Sleeper is 99% to have ticket checks onboard due to their compulsory reservation policy especially in berth accomodation.

You might find you get it quicker. The dates they state tend to be worst-case. When I last ordered one it took only a couple of days.

About that, if one were to board the train and head straight for their cabin, would they be subject to any ticket checks?

Thanks for that clarification.
On a recent trip the steward at Euston checked my Room Supplement reservation as I got onboard. However, over the entire Euston-Fort William journey, no-one checked whether I had a valid travel ticket (I had a valid Britrail Pass).

I suppose that if you had a reservation you could be assumed to have a ticket to go with.

Maybe they're making that assumption or maybe the steward just forgot. You can book a Room Supplement reservation without having to show proof that you have a valid travel ticket.

But I take your point; it would be the height of brazenness to travel with just a Room Supplement and no travel ticket!
