Noticed that myself. Very unusual working. I’m on a 43 this afternoon and it was on my board as well. Been swapped out for 929 unfortunately.
Isn't the 43 operated by Livingston? If so wouldn't the Livingston drivers need training on the E400 type before they could drive it?
(Just basing this off the railway where you need training on every "type" of train before you can operate it.)

Are there going to be any service change for Lothian buses this month?

w Scott

Not to our knowledge, services are almost back to near normal at this rate anyway (minus the current diversions in town and lack of X5 but at this point it might aswell be forever gone)

I’d say if there was an increase maybe expect it in spring time (depending on the current covid situation remaining stable) obviously my hope is the drivers are safe and in good health and not overworked during these times.

personally I’m hoping we get an improved network overhaul, revise a few routes to inter work better for example the (21/400) both connect at the Royal Infirmary and Clovenstone, would be handy if you were on a 400 from (Gracemount-Colinton) and you swap over at Clovenstone with a 21 behind you a few minutes later for onwards travel (Sighthill - Ferry Road) ergo a full circle!

And also either improve the 300 or put it out it’s misery

Give it a year or so and I’d expect a major change. The network will likely be adjusted for tram extension, new routes coming in, a fair few of the current routes possibly changing or going out completely. Time will tell though.

Nowhere near enough to a Pacer :(
I will expect the 22 to either be heavily revised or cutback for the entirety of the section through leaf. 35 I think will remain unchanged as it barely duplicated the tram and does a useful job. I will extend the 35 back to the gyle and maybe as far as ingliston park and ride though and as far as the 300 is concerned I would radically alter this so it started at wallyford rail station, served musselburgh before going onto the bypass and serving the various park and ride sites, Edinburgh park station, the gyle and finally the airport providing a relatively fast airport service for East Lothian passengers who currently are unable to avoid a city centre interchange if going to the airport no matter how they travel by it bus or rail.

Technically, yes. Although I spent 4 years driving E400s at Stagecoach so I think I would have been alright.

No training required, a bus is a bus as far as driving is concerned. All it would take is for the departing driver to pass on a few key features to the relief driver (location of door buttons, handbrake lever, remember indicators are on the right hand side of the steering wheel on ADL buses etc) and then off you go.

Hold up, is this about the E400 “classic” or the E400 Lecky buses?

The 'classic' ones. Drivers don't absolutely require type training for anything (for example I didn't have any for the XLB, BYD etc - a bus is a bus to me).

I imagine they try to avoid situations where a driver may refuse a bus as not trained and when swaps occur generally try to get the vehicle back to its own garage rather than finishing elsewhere.

That's really weird. Is there even a stalk on the left?

Nope! I always find myself grasping at thin air as I'm just so used to driving Volvos. Even after 10 years of bus/coach before coming here

Drivers of a certain vintage will have experienced indicator stalks on the right before, although maybe not recently :)

Yup, fairly sure that was the standard on all British built vehicles, when those new fangled stalks were introduced, including the Mk1 Volvo Ailsa’s built in Irvine.

Ah so it's only the E400 (classics) that have it like that, it's on the left on the Volvo-chassis vehicles?

Weird, right? You can see it in this photo. The light controls, windscreen washer and horn are all on the stick to the right of the steering wheel.

(Photo shows the cab of an ADL Enviro400 bus)

The older Darts and Tridents have the stalk on the right too. It's only on the latest generation of Enviros (MMC) that they've move it to the left since that's more the norm now.

Have Volvo B5s 691, 694, 697 and 698 arrived yet? If no what is the delay?

I remember when indicators looked like this and were on the right.
(Image shows CAV indicator control, as fitted on older bus types)
