Passing through yesterday I noticed the store in Arrivals Area (Landside) is closing on the above date seemingly for good.

Surprised - does anyone know why ?

The M&S Simply Food store is indeed closing (1st Oct?) and will apparently then be re-opening as a Sainsbury's.

That seems interesting given that M&S Simply Food is focused on having on airport stores. The Tesco Express inside Glasgow Airport became an M&S a couple years ago, somewhat ironically. Perhaps we will see Sainsbury‘s in more airports in future.

It was a shame when the one at Man Vic closed as well.
I don't really consider Man Vic or the stations it serves as suitable for a M & S. Next youre be telling me there's Waitrose in Manchester

So it seems, unfortunately - although it may have been the pandemic that killed it off.

Leeds supports many M&S food although its city centre Waitrose didn't survive (which is a surprise as its become overly yuppified for my taste).

There was certainly a 'Little Waitrose' on Manchester Piccadilly station approach, which had only opened in 2014, but this was one of a number whose disposal was announced in June 2018. The others closing were at Bridge Street near Spinningfields (opened 2010 and also in Manchester) plus two more elsewhere. The former Little Waitrose outlets are now, I believe, all Co-op stores.

Agreed, it's a big miss! There's a Co-op nearby but its not the same (and you get wet walking to it!).

Yes, the coop does seem very "outside" the station. Having to cross all the traffic and tram tracks adds to this.

Only used this M&S a few times, it was useful for getting a decent sandwich. The Glasgow Airport branch is always well stocked, I wonder if the Glasgow Airport one will be next. Can't think of any supermarkets apart from Spar at UK airports.

Most airport M&S stores are operated by SSP. They also operate a lot of railway station M&S as well.

Airport stores tend to be more profitable, but the costs and complexity of operation are also higher.

Better and cheaper when it was Tesco!
