What is going on with this company, has anyone heard anything? i'm lead to believe some of his buses have been sold off.

The only thing I found online was

MACKIE’S of Alloa has suspended key bus services until further notice.

From the evening on March 31, the MA1, MA2 and MA3 bus services will be temporarily suspended, and a date has not been set as to when they will resume.

A spokesperson for the company told the Advertiser: "Mackie’s wish to apologise for the inconvenience that this decision will cause our passengers.

"The firm has taken this decision to help protect the health and wellbeing of both our staff and the public.

"Hopefully, normal service will be restored at an early date."
However, this was published back in March and isn't really news as far as this forum is concerned.

If they have it is very recent. A quick online check shows the service bus fleet to be taxed with none showing a change of ownership.

What routes do Mackie’s operate? Do the MA routes not shadow First‘s 51 and 52 but at less frequency?

They have 2 routes:

Ma1: Clackmanan - Alloa - Stirling
Ma2: Tullibody - Alloa - Tillicoultry - Alva - Stirling ( Ma3 is the other way.)

Ma1 is the only route from Clackmannan to Stirling direct

Alas the company has NOT restarted any of its routes, even thought it does provide the main service for Clackmannan to Alloa and Stirling

Neither have a lot of the other non-First companies running in Stirling, not a concern for now. Would assume things are back in order by August once demand picks up and most things are open again.
As of 25 June 2020 these bus operator's services are suspended:

  • Mackies of Alloa
  • Addison
  • Ferguson
  • Bryans

One of Mackies sources of income has disappeared:

NOTE: The two links explain about the current land which is used by the Prudential HQ and how it would be radical overhauled with reduced building for the pre and at lot new development.

Mackies had alot of staff buses but will less staff means less buses. Talk on the grapevine is they bus services are not coming back. - touch wood??

It was mentioned in the Midland Bluebird thread that Mackie's have gone. Has there actually been any official confirmation of this?

On the subject of competition, Mackies of Alloa look like they are resuming services at the end of January, since stopping them due to coronavirus.

Will be interesting to see how McGill's handle them compared to First.

Given the levels of service that looks like is being offered I wouldn’t think so.
McGill's 51 often gets cancellations every day so there is demand for a regular service although it does look like it would be better if it was hourly - presume they don't want to go further in case they have issues with getting drivers etc.

Very much a skeleton service as they only need one bus for it most of the day although if you look at all the timetables you can work out that they need a second one later in the day from Alloa at 15:03.

Just to show you here are all the services in one day. I do think the stance numbers are wrong though for stances 8 and 7 as they're on the same side, should be the same stance not reversing out one and into the next.

They used to run a lot more prior to 2020 for decades and did have a Saturday service too but I would think if people use it and there's enough resources it'll get increased in the future.

If anything it might get McGill's to clean up the issues with the 51 as they do frequently appear on their daily short notice cancellations page.

There is no 1501 from Alloa, so fairly sure that in true ‘Indy’ style it will all be done by one bus.

The timetables have been added to their website.

Then the times on bustimes are different to what is on there as there was a 15:01 from Alloa there and it is also on the Traveline website. Presume someone has made a mistake somewhere!

There wasn’t a 1501 in the registration, so unsure where bustimes or traveline will have taken it from.
