You can pursue damages in a civil court if a tort (wrong) has caused you a loss. The court will then weigh up the pros and cons and award you damages (and perhaps costs) if it feels it appropriate. It can make you pay the costs of the other party (as well as your own) if it doesn't agree with you.

That's a bit 'Iron Fist' approach considering you do not know the whole story, it could of been a homeless man, a drunk, a junkie etc etc.

I'm not condoning what they have done but classing him as a criminal seems a bit....I don't know, he's obviously paid the price

And.....
The signs are there, Danger over head live wires!!! No sympathy,

The consequences of this persons stupidtity and yeah it was stupidity....

He's semi Cremated oh and Dead and possible contender for the Darwin awards 2007
Train hold ups
Emergency services yet again called out needlesly because of someones stupidity....

Hes trespassing so yeah and the last time I looked its a criminal offence with a fine of £1000 last time I looked.

Looks like a hell of alot of fun though!

How the hell can you call that fun?

Thats just pure lunacy!!!
What type of sane person would dangle their legs on the ground of a "SPEEEDING" train and call it fun?.....

I can just hear it now when they are cleaning his guts and other assorted bodily bits from around the underside and wheels... Bet he will be laughing then.

Okay, I wouldn't do it myself. But I imagine that people stupid enough to do it would have a hell of an adrenaline rush and a hell of alot of fun! ...before they get killed that is. I'm not trying to say that things like this are acceptable, but you get my point, right? I bet you could name a few stupid people you know that would do this in a second! I sure could...

What's the story behind this? They had a lot of cameras there.

Those cables cannot possibly be 25kV, or they'd be dead!

Soweto (Johannesburg), South Africa, has a big problem with train surfers and it is a very common thing for kids to do there. I'm not sure what the voltage on those wires is, however in Brazil (another problem location) the wires are 3,300 volts. Brazil fines people 75 cents and 80 cents for the first and second times caught. IIRC this is about just 38p and 44p respectively.

But then, bearing in mind the pitiful wages that these folks are living on, that's more significant than it is to us.

Comparing average salaries, the lower fine is about £5.20.
