South Western Railway90 class 701s are currently being introducedA small number of 701s are currently in revenue service, with details on the 701 threadDiscussion here
2 class 707s remain at SWRThere is currently no set date for their transfer to SE-
A minimum of eight class 458s are due to be reintroduced to cover for the 701 farceTo be reintroduced by the end of July 2024
Without wishing to cause offence, I think anyone reading these threads (701) will not disagree, but the use of the word 'farce' is perhaps not correct. Try 'shortfall', which may come across better. Remember, there may be people involved in the project looking in to sites such as this. Just a thought!

What does that have to do with anything? If a very poor situation has occurred, to the great inconvenience of many, I do not see a reason to pretend the very poor situation isn’t a very poor situation simply to preserve the feelings of those involved in that very poor situation.

Hello all. I've been struggling to keep track of the current state of the fleet changes and tenders out for the various TOCs, and thought it might be useful to have a master thread (in the same vein as the new stations thread) to keep a track of the current and expected tenders, with links to all the various threads. I am not envisaging this to become a long discussion thread in and of itself, and instead to become more of a reference point.

===

Transport for Wales - Class 197 "46 units accepted for service
30/51 two car units and 16/26 three car units" needs updating.

It's been "51 units accepted for service

@DanNCL Has been maintaining a list over on the metro thread about 555s if that's helpful.

List further updated to show 555020 entering passenger service, as well as to distinguish between units that are in use for driver training, those on test, and those not yet seen outside of Gosforth depot. Also corrected an error that had 555026 down as delivered instead of 555028, now corrected to show 555026 in Switzerland and 555028 at Gosforth.

On a recent visit to Gosforth I noticed that 555001 was completely powered down alongside long term stored Metrocars 4007 and 4037. 555001 has been in the North East for 9 months now and still not been seen out on the network. Does anyone know what the situation is with this unit?

Key:
Green
- operational in passenger service
Blue - Delivered, under test.
Orange - Delivered, not yet seen on test
Red - Complete, not yet delivered
Purple - Delivered, in use for driver training
Grey - On assembly line at Stadler Rheintal, St Margrethen, Switzerland.

Notes:
Units stored in Switzerland are split between three known locations; Stadler's St Margrethen site, the SBB yard at St Margrethen, and Stadler's Erlen site.

555001 - delivered to Gosforth 19/04/2024. Tested at VUZ Velim, Czechia, during late 2022 and early 2023.
555002 - delivered to Gosforth 14/06/2024. Tested at VUZ Velim, Czechia, during late 2022 and early 2023.

An excellent thread. I once tried something similar (in a personal capacity, not online) and got lost in a deluge of conflicting information, often considered by the writer as FACT! Probably well intentioned rather than malicious but unhelpful nonetheless. It made me appreciate why Wikipedia insists (or at least used to with more vigour) in referenced sources. As per the New Stations Calendar, actual published statements of a reliable nature can be hard to come by, especially if it is bad news such as delays in delivery.

SE has all 707s
There are were many things out-of-date in the table (edit - since updated on the 5/6/25). @waverley47 gave direct message as one of the options to provide them with updates, and I took up that option in January 2025, but nothing came out of it, so I'll take up I took up the other option and post posted updates here instead.

***(only sections of the original table that needed updating until the 5/6/25 update are covered here; last updated 7/6/25)***

Avanti West Coast

Acceptance of Class 807s has begun, units are now in service.

(No Class 221s are in service with this Train Operating Company - TOC - anymore)

Chiltern Railways

With Chiltern Railways announced as the operator for the first part of East West Rail (Oxford-Milton Keynes), 6x 2-car Class 196 units are being sub-leased from West Midlands Railway and will be vinyl wrapped with Chiltern colours/branding.

As of May 2025, between 8 and 12 Mark 5A sets (with Mark 5A-compatible Class 68s, the first 8 being 68020/22/26/27/28/30/31/32) will be transferred to Chiltern Railways, where they will replace the Mark 3 sets (and existing Class 68s), with training taking place in preparation for the start of entry to service in December 2025, to be followed by full service in 2026.

(the reference to ex-TfW 175s should be removed, as those are now going to Great Western Railway)

CrossCountry

All 12 of this TOC's 12 ex-Avanti 221s have been in service (221107-221118)

Grand Central

As of April 2025, 9x 5-car Hitachi AT300 tri-mode (overhead electric / battery electric / diesel) units have been ordered, with delivery expected in 2028.

Great Western Railway

175002, 175007, 175009 and 175114 have been delivered to Laira depot, and several other 175s have gone to Wolverton for refurbishment.

The GWR Class 175 thread link could be updated to this thread https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/class-175-to-gwr.272524/ (thanks @Dan G)

Hull Trains

(take from the following text!) In December 2024, Hitachi Rail stated in a press release that it had entered into a contract with FirstGroup and Angel Trains to lease 14 new five-car electric, battery-electric or bi-mode trains for First Rail's open-access operations, which will be manufactured at Newton Aycliffe, with their delivery expected to commence in late 2027. These trains will be used on a newly announced London-Carmarthen route, and to increase the number of carriages on the existing Lumo and Hull Trains services. The agreement includes an option to add 13 more trains to the order if more of First Rail's recently submitted open-access applications are successful.

London North Eastern Railway

(the 10 CAF units will be 10-car Class 897 tri-mode units)

Lumo

(take from the following text!) In December 2024, Hitachi Rail stated in a press release that it had entered into a contract with FirstGroup and Angel Trains to lease 14 new five-car electric, battery-electric or bi-mode trains for First Rail's open-access operations, which will be manufactured at Newton Aycliffe, with their delivery expected to commence in late 2027. The agreement includes an option to add 13 more trains to the order if more of First Rail's recently submitted open-access applications are successful.

Merseyrail

All (53) 777s are now accepted for service, now that no 507s or 508s are in service anymore.

Northern Trains

Here is a link to the 'New units for Northern - shortlist of manufacturers' thread.

South Western Railway

The first newly refurbished 458 entered service in June 2024.

(No Class 707s remain at South Western Railway; the last two units were transferred to Southeastern in September 2024)

Transport for Wales

(197s) 66/77 units accepted for service - 40/51 two car units (30/30 non-ETCS and 9/21 ETCS-fitted) and 26/26 three car units (12/12 2+2-only seating and 14/14 with a small portion of 2+1 seating)

(756s) 20/24 units accepted for service - 3/7 three coach units and 17/17 four coach units)

Tyne and Wear Metro

23/46 Class 555s were built as of June 2024. The first Class 555 unit entered service on 18 December 2024. Five units have been in service as of April 2025.

West Midlands Trains

All 26 Class 196 units have been in service, but 6x 2-car 196s are moving to Chiltern Railways on sub-lease (see Chiltern Railways section).

It is expected that 'London Northwestern Railway' subclass 730/2 will start to enter service in June 2025, initially on Milton Keynes Central to London Euston local stopping services.

(no Class 323s remain at West Midlands Trains in 2025)

Updated to reflect changes named in this thread
Nice one :) Just a couple of error corrections needed however:

New London North Eastern Railway CAF units' class from 879 to 897

Total number of accepted Transport for Wales (TfW) 197s from 46 to 66

Maybe also change the 756s from being "on order" to "being introduced", as TfW have all of them, just that 4 haven't yet entered service.

And now an update as of the 7/6/25:

Transport for Wales

(197s) 66/77 units accepted for service - 40/51 two car units (30/30 non-ETCS and 10/21 ETCS-fitted) and 26/26 three car units (12/12 2+2-only seating and 14/14 with a small portion of 2+1 seating)

Should that be 10/21 ETCS-fitted rather than 9/21
or
65/77 overall and 39/51 2car
?

(197022 might be the change from 9/21 to 10/21)

Yes, oops. 10/21 ETCS fitted (with 197022 being the 10th), but the Original Post only splits the 197s into 2-car and 3-car, so 66/77 overall (40/51 2-car and 26/26 3-car) is correct.

Another update today (9/6/25):

West Midlands Trains 'London Northwestern Railway' subclass 730/2 had a first entry to service on the 9/6/25; 730213+730233 worked 1W51 1619 London Euston to Northampton.

Much appreciated :)
