Why does vanilla get removed first? I'd have expected that to be the most popular flavour, no?

(I guess it isn't, which surprises me - so what IS the most popular? Banana?)
I don't know but it annoys me no end, vanilla is by far the nicest <( and I've always liked popping into McDonalds after enduring poor weather and cooling down with a nice milkshake ready for the long sweat home.
Vanilla is by far the most delicious flavour - even when there is no promotion often it is unavailable, presumably as it has sold out and they've run out of syrup. Surely it's the most popular - why can't they remove one of the others in promotion?

Funny you should mention the Egg McMuffin.

I used to order this regularly, and since it didn't have any meat was about 40p cheaper than a sausage and egg.

Recently when I ordered one I was told that there was now no difference in the price with the sausage and egg. A very crafty move I think, and since the egg muffin is rather less fatty than the sausage and egg, not a very good move in terms of fighting obesity etc.

No not particularly, however poor maintanance is the problem. The machines go into lock out if they arent given a full strip and lube of all the moving parts every 14 days, (my franchise specified it must be done every 7 days. In the store I worked at there was only 2 of us trained to do this procedure, myself and 1 other colleague. This majorly screwed my store up when me and the other person handed our notices in to leave within a few days of each other!

Thankyou for that.

I applied for a job as a Trainee Manager with McDonalds over 30 years ago -yes you read correctly THIRTY

The process was quite sensible (don't know if it's the same today) but they used to "give you a trial" to see if you liked the job and if they thought you were suitable. They put you up in a Hotel for the three day trial, all expenses paid.

I got an early train into "the smoke" from where I was living at the time in Eastleigh. My Mother was astonished to find me home in time for Lunch :p

Truth be told I was initially put off by the fact that you had to iron your own Uniform  and the smell of the fryers. Even the prospect of Three Nights in a decent Hotel could not persuade me to stay.

Mummy's Boy or what :(

Thanks for the reference to the clocks. However the only clock I could see was so reflective I could make out one of the hands but no numbers on it so didn't see if it was the clock I needed to be reading ;)

I eat at McDonalds at least once a week, often more, and I've never had any bad experiences, although I generally opt for Dairy Milk McFlurries over milkshakes.

KFC are more hit and miss, generally the busier the branch the better, as then there is a much quicker turnover of product, so it sits for less time.

Strange how that other great purveyor of "American Cuisine" namely Taco Bell has never taken off in the UK as have MCD's , BK, KFC and Pizza Hut :p

The only issue I have with McDonalds are sometimes the chips are old and soggy...
...and once or twice the drinks have no syrup in them...
...and one time there was one pickle in my "no pickles" Deluxe Quarter Pounder :P (which either suggests putting pickles on is a 2-man job and only one knew not to put them on mine, or they removed pickles from an existing burger and missed one!)

I used to like the milkshakes, though I haven't had one for ages now :(
I do recall the common "breakdowns" the machines had, though

To be honest, I tend to be more a fan of BK, but if I do happen to go to McD's again, I may be awkward and ask for fries with no salt - there really is no need to put so much salt on the things!

On a semi-related topic, and one that has been mentioned already, what is meant to be the procedure for mixing McFlurries. When they first came out, they were done OK but most of the ones I have had since tend to be given a quick stir by hand, which isn't really enough!

Until recently the franchisee for Burger King at motorway services was Little Chef Ltd.

I'm not sure if Welcome Breaks were - I was led to believe they were all franchised directly (including the KFC's and retail outlets too)

Rather than wait for a special order, I usually just perform pickle extraction surgery on my Quarter Pounder, using my sharpest chip :)

Oh I know, I normally do, but as they had none prepared I thought if they were going to make a fresh one they might as well save a penny or two not putting pickles in ;)
... I will resume the DIY option now though it seems :P

I always ask for a plain hamburger because I don't like the toppings but sometimes I get one with toppings anyway :(

Vanilla milkshake and chicken nuggets are always good choices. Banana will do in a pinch

I vote for bannana!!!!!!! However I'm sure if you ask 1000 different people you would get at least 200 votes for each of the 4 flavours. But it should either be chocolate when it is a chocoltate based special and vanilla or bannana otherwise.

Large chicken mcnugget meal with strawberry shake!!!

Another thing I've noticed is that some branches have a '1 dip per meal' policy, personally I like at least 3 tubs of ketchup with my meal so these branches are annoying.

Strawberry was the most popular flavour by quite a mile iirc.
Then Chocolate,
Then Banana
Then Vanilla, I hardly ever sold vanilla shakes believe it or not!

McFlurries must be ''flurried'' by inserting the spoon into the Flurry then placing the spoon onto the mixer. It should be flurried for 8 seconds. If you see them hand stir it it isn't a McFlurry.

As our Extranet says: ''It's not a Flurry if it's made in a hurry!''

My branch always gives me three or four with mine, whereas I only use 1 most of the time! sod's law eh...
...my local branch also keeps the straws behind the counter with no dispensers on the floor, which seems slightly odd!

What happened to sauce on the McFlurry? They only do it the promotional ones now. Cheshire oaks branch don't bother flurrying their McFlurry ice cream straight in and topping thrown in. Ellesmere Port branch used to flurry it and that and mix all the sauce in and the toppings. However whenever I ask for ice cream on a cone they sometimes put chocolate sauce on it. They ask me first, some just don't bother with it.

Some branches don't even hand stir it... And they serve it half melted!

Do we have the same local branch? That's exactly what mine does!

Thanks for that - I must come to your branch when you are working...you may well be the only person to do it properly :P

I guess as before, if they don't do it properly, complain to customer services? (I guess complaining to the server would be met with little more than a grunt in most cases :P)

I always ask for mine to be whizzed on the machine seems to work normally

I did a variant of that at home with milkshake powder, ice cream, milk and sugar. It was nice enough although as you can imagine far from being good for oneself

I've not had a McDonald's milkshake in ages but have always been irked over a lack of vanilla milkshake. Instead I get vanilla or butterscotch flavour from sainsburys

I thought they did have Vanilla.

It's been a while since I've ordered milkshake but it seems 50/50 whether or not I've got one. Perhaps I've just been unlucky? I'd try it if I weren't so lazy (the nearest one is 10mins out of the way)

More generally I find it frustrating that they do not seem to display prices online. Does anyone know of a reason for this?

All stores have different prices, the four stores within Southampton all have different prices for example.

At the McDonald's in King's Cross (York Way), I saw a milkshake machine that looked really futuristic (brown edges/sides) compared to the ones I'm more used to.

Are these just a facelifted update of the older one, or some new fancy machine that can't ever get things wrong?

In Birmingham New Street when I last went there they had a machine that made smoothies and iced coffees! I certainly enjoyed it... I'm guessing it's just a trial and will hopefully come to other places! Maybe it's the one jonmorris0844 is talking about in King's Cross but I can't remember seeing one there!
