I have had a look on the internet and it says there is a list on the day for the times of the tickets/numbers when you travel, is this how it works ie no actual ticket just a ref number?

Its like a National Express FunFare in a way, you can print a confirmation off of your MegaTrain Journey, when you show it to a Guard they have a list of numbers/references for that train and crosscheck your number with the number shown on their correspondnce.

    Cheers,

I have visions of being on the train roof for the £1 fare Salisbury to Waterloo.

You don't actually need to print it off either. I just made a note of the reference number on my phone and showed that to the person at the barrier. Lots of people in front of me seemed to be doing the same as well.

Sounds like a conversation between me and a barrow based guard at Piccadilly when the 1916 was short formed,

"This ain't crouded, there's no-one layed in the luggage racks and they're not stood on the tables yet"."
"And theres no-one on the roof..."

Thanks, I didnt want to take bits of paper as I have a few tickets. I do put ref numbers on my phone, You would think they would send an Eticket to your phone to stop abuse as happens for Orange Wednesday now.

I don't know if he actually was, but the person checking the reference numbers did appear to be cross-checking it with his list - which should stop abuse.

They never seem to on the Greyhound on the other hand! They just glance at the number and if it seems realistic let you through.

I travelled on a Megatrain ticket yesterday.

Guard had a list of reservation numbers and ticked them off after being presented it by the passenger.

He (accidentally) gave me the check list instead of my printout. I put it in my bag and didn't even notice until he came back through the train wondering if it had been dropped somewhere!

There seem to have been more checking recently against the database list. The last three journeys I went on with Megatrain, I was checked on all of them. Sometimes certain stations also have them at the gateline now, which previously I have only witnessed at St Pancras.

I read on another forum that sometimes they ask all those with a megatrain ticket to sit in one designated carriage, cattle class :D It proberly helps with checking really, For £1.50 I would nearly sit on the roof.

I haven't noticed any for quite some time but on SWT services there used to a sticker in the window of the relevant Megatrain coach, but I suspect that was scrapped at the same time SWT got rid of reservations.

There used to be boards on the platforms at a few stations (Waterloo, Portsmouth and Southsea) telling people which coach to sit in. These might have gone as well now. Was it the 2nd coach iirc?

    Quiet possibly.

I doubt if it was a busy coach everyone with a Megatrain ticket would sit in it, indeed in theory there might not be enough seats if there were a lot of people in there with any-time and off-peak tickets who can't be told to move for being in the wrong coach.

    2nd Coach on a 444.

They probably decided at the end that it was more hassle than anything else for no particular benefit to the company.

I believe you could sit in that particular coach if you didnt have a megatrain ticket.
